The year we signed him he we recruited heavily. I remember his signing went under the radar by a lot of people.

I expected he'd come off the bench and be versatile. He started off playing off the bench at dummy half or filling in for injuries. He performed so well as the replacement ball playing middle forward the coaching staff worked around him where they could to fill in for injured players.

It has been great having him come off the bench and pick up the tempo, provide some ball playing through the middle. Johnson has mentioned how useful it was having Dylan get the team to specific parts of the field so Johnson could play off that.

I don't want to get into the compassionate releases too much. We don't know what goes on with these guys away from football.

I've enjoyed the performances he has provided for the club. We have had a lot of recruits not perform. The reason this is so much of a downer is that he has been performing.

If it is the Eels where he ends up it will be interested to see how they use him. Off the bench dummy half/utility like Manly or in the middle like we did.

Not sure how much that would really free up tbh. Players reportedly get paid quarterly with the first installment starting in Nov. That would mean half his contract for 2025 would already have been paid for the return of 3 games.

The timing of this just sucks.
If it gets paid quarterly, doesn't some of it get proportionally taken off us and added to the Eels cap?

Yea, but doesn't that go the same way for any player that's brought in?

Yes the outstanding payments ie 2 quarters. Unless ofcourse if we chipped in.

Say hes on 800k. 400k of it for 2025 would be counted in our cap(already paid) and the outstanding 400k added to Eels cap for 2025.

The same applies for any player we can sign for 2025 don't forget. But really, I don't think there will be a player of note released to us for this year, unless they are damaged goods or on the outer. We aren't really known for pushing the limits in terms of talking to contracted players and getting them to push for a release. There aren't even many players on the market for 2026 who are worth splashing our cash on either. Slim pickings, hopefully we get another JFH like situation.

He was reported to be on $800k, we’ve already paid him 5months of that so frees up about 450k for this year. Parra get him at a bargain. We pay 350 for 3 games, they pay 450 for 24 rounds 🤦🏻‍♂️

Surely it's not that cut and dry regarding what we pay him.

In this situation Dyl approaches management and says 'sorry, I have to go back to Aussie immediately for family reasons'.

I find it hard to believe our response is 'ohhh, I can see your quarterly pay has just ticked over and youve been paid $400k for 3 games. How about we get you on the first plane back to Oz so you don't have to play a 4th'.

Surely if someone has requested a release we say 'yip, you've just been paid your next quarter so we can either release you after Rd 12, or you pay x amount back and you can leave now'.

I can't see a situation where we let him walk for 400k for 3 games. Each club is a business at the end of the day and that's just bad business

Look at the Francis Molo situation at the dragons. They didn't want to release him until he repaid the club, as they were expecting him to stay-put for the season.
