Sports AFL

There was a reference to AFL in one of the post game threads, which made me wonder if anyone follows AFL.

I highly recommend tuning in to some games and trying to understand the rules, it's pretty interesting if you can get into it.

Personally, I've followed the Hawks, since a
my mates (All Bombers fans) got me into it in 2009.

Anyone else follow a team? If so, who?

When I was living on the Gold Coast I got involved through a mate who was playing for Surfers Paradise Demons and I would attend most of their games mainly for a few beers on the Sunday.
I ended as the team manager and then manager of the GC rep team.
Lots of good stuff and I still enjoy/understand the game.
I don't watch much AFL these days but used to follow the Bombers

Hey, that's pretty cool!

The grass roots support for the game is really interesting to me.

Can I ask how you originally got into supporting the Bombers?

I worked with some guys who supported Essendon so that lead me to follow them
and later I met a ex Bombers legend who had moved to the GC and he came to our training sessions and helped our team regularly and then the rep team also
I remember how even though he had been retired many years how far he could still kick a ball. Amazing stuff

Thanks for sharing.

Yeah, the ball skills that these guys have is mind boggling.

Even the angles that they can slot it from just blow my mind. I'd love to get an ex AFL forward in as a kicking coach, it's straight magic.

I suggested that getting an ex AFL player to help us with kicking techniques when we were based in Redcliffe.
I am still in contact with a few guys who would have loved to help.
Didn't get a good response on here.
" balls a different shape " etc

And other negativety but I know they would've helped

I ‘casually’ support Swans and Giants. Will often watch the Minis for those teams but generally struggle to keep attention for a full game and may tune in to watch the last quarter if it’s close otherwise it’s a bit of a background thing/flicking over to watch 5-10 mins here and there type sport.
Have been to 2 games at the MCG. 1 was a work function Hawthorne v Essendon circa 2015 and another was the ANZAC day Essendon v ? About 4 years ago (left early to go to the Warriors) and much better product live.
Been meaning to go to a game in Sydney but the SCG is a bit of a pain for me to get to and Engie just looks like it doesn’t have much of an atmosphere

I always thought that AFL was better at the ground than on TV.
You can see the positioning down field when guys are trying to make a target for the kicker

I watched the Lions v West Coast game on TV last weekend - not a fucking scoobie what was going on🤷‍♂️
Image a bunch of excited puppies chasing a tennis ball or seagulls fighting over a chip and you’re halfway there, then it’s 6 points if you kick it between the sticks and 1 point for ‘trying’
Every so often they get into a tit for tat shoving match off the ball for…reasons
Thus concludes my knowledge of the game
