NRL 2025 NRL Preseason Challenge

To add context. That info is from this article.

“He has been outstanding,” said Webster. “He has owned it all pre-season, he has wanted extra responsibility. Everyone has seen Luke Metcalf as a second receiver but his kicking game, his direction, his speed, his threat – he is a player for the future and he is doing a great job.”

According to his coach, the former Shark is up for the challenge.

“He didn’t come to us but when we asked him he was so confident,” said Webster. “He was like, I can do this, I want it, I reckon I can run the team.”

On a side note. Really wish they just posted a video of the interview or did a media day like they did last week. Love hearing it directly from the horse's mouth rather than it being interpreted.
It was reported on sports news this morning on the radio.

and from that article you posted - "Webster also confirmed that Luke Metcalf will inherit Shaun Johnson’s No 7 jersey."

Yup, AW has confirmed he will be the 7 for round 1. Time will tell and I hope he shows a lot more than what he has done because we need a 7 who can provide consistent attacking stats. My thoughts are we have got our halves around the wrong way and we had a template from mid season last year to work with so changing our halves, and our attacking structure apparently, seems a bit of a weird decision to me.
Webby and Agar must see more potential in Luke to run the cutter than TMM, hope they're right because first 4 games are winnable if they gel straight away.

Man what a huge year for Jacob Laban, People say Halasima is ahead of him but I think Laban is more NRL ready than halasima.

His defense in that first trial was so good! Can't wait to see how goes tomorrow in the Maori team.

I'm wondering if he would be more suited to middle forward than on an edge?

I do love his defense on an edge though. Hope he develops a handy passing game.

The sky is the limit for this kid and I'm thinking future captain. (but I said that about bailey Sironen 😂)

Was it just me or was Jacob Laban doing a lot of grabbing instead of real shoulder on body contact tackling?

See Mr Volkman's getting himself a new jerb with the kicking...

Any good surgeon woulda put put his ACL where his shoulder is and vice versa. While wearing his Wahs scrubs.

Knights not looking too good so far...

Ayeee they finally posted it! Only took 2 days. Some notes:
1. Looks like Rocco is gonna be back in the first few rounds. But it's a nerve injury so cannot be 100% sure.
2. Barny was going to be captain but after seeing how fish ended up being the Prefect Ying to Barney's yang off the field. They offered co captaincy if each was ok with that.
3. Even if both are the captain's it looks like the halves and Egan are going to stay in charge of our captain challenges.
4. All stars is our state of origin so we're all for it unlike other clubs. If we're fine with sending away capes and Barney out for state of origin with our season on the line how can we be against this.
5. Found it a bit rough that they only gave a week's notice before trials about the play the ball stuff. They had all preseason to give warning.
6. "Luke will be the 7"

According to NRL physio Rocco suffered the exact same injury that Flegler did who is no guarantee to return this season.

I doubt Berry is going to be back in the first few rounds. The way he said maybe, hopefully was not encouraging
