Mass migration changes culture that's something we can agree on right?

I would say that in most cases migration has been good, different points of view, better food etc.

The exception being where people bring their beliefs from their books of folk tales and beliefs they have turned into dogma and that they need to follow instead of local custom or law.

Then there are the issues in the UK with the rape gangs, but I would relate that back to religion and culture too.

Then again, the Christian right in America wouldn't call themselves immigrants so maybe America needs more immigration to dilute them

Not sure what my point is other than maybe migration is not the issue. The problem is dogma based on stories written to influence and rewritten in the name of gaining power.

No I'm not saying that Sweden was perfect. But there is no denying that mass immigration of one ethnicity in a very short space of time that hasn't integrated at all in to the culture has had a very negative impact on the country.

You, and others, are assuming I'm from a very extreme position and it seems you are taking the extreme opposite position.

All I was saying was that it makes sense to ensure countries protect their history, culture, character etc. Celebrating who we are and maintaining traditions. And part of that is obviously managing who and how many people we accept in to the country. That isn't that controversial is it?

If that is something that's not agreeable then I'm assuming the same can't apply to NZ and that we shouldn't protect the character, culture and history of the country either. The things that make us unique.

Unfortunately countries like Sweden and ours participate in bombing and exploiting the countries these migrant usually refugee peoples are coming from.
Potentially we stop doing said shitty things over the globe and supporting countries like America and Britain and France who create these humanitarian disasters in the first place.
Perhaps them coming here and changing our culture into a more peaceful , kebab loving culture is whats required.

Sure, but they are still coming here and need to respect our country, culture, character etc.

I'm sure there are plenty of people that are pissed off when an asian immigrant goes out and destroys a cockle population for example. Is that racist?

No, but by the same token is it racist when Rio Tinto destroys Aboriginal rock art and sacred sites for mining in Aus?
If I go to Bali and be a dick am I being a respectful tourist etc.
There are flogs and criminals and lovers of all nations and ethnicities my friend.

Comes down to having the settings and processes in place to make sure you are getting the immigration you want or need to improve your country, whatever that means and assuming that's the goal.
Once people are here and they are new Zealanders it's too late to say you can't stay. Your society either has to change or they do, more likely it ends up being both.

Yup. Slow adaption of change. Interesting to know what being a New Zealander currently is from others perspective and from anyone looking to come here.

Yes, but there's immigrants who become members of whatever country they immigrate to and those who are still members of their previous country.
To put it in it's most simple terms, it's been said Japanese tourists are the worst tourists because the first thing they do when they go to another country is look for a good Japanese restaurant near their hotel to dine at. And to be fair, Japanese cuisine is bloody good, but my point is there is little if any sampling of the local cuisine/sights/sounds/lifestyle. They want Japan wherever they go.
Those of us who weren't born here came here from another country and while there still might be some lingering love/respect for that country, this is home now.

Anyway, the Sicilians are a prime example of how people moving in from overseas and not assimilating to the local culture changes things. Used to be the blond haired blue eyed wops until the Moors moved in.
All that history stuff is fascinating. I learnt it from Dennis Hopper.

Yeah it is interesting how everyone interconnects.

The Anatolian folk had shared roots with the people of the Levant too eh.

My own favorite guilty pleasure is Paleo anthropology, pre history, human origins.

One day I am gonna shout myself some replica skulls of Homo Habilis Homo erectus, Homo Juluensis, and perhaps Neaderthals.

The thing that is stopping me is that other people don't want to look at my skulls for some strange reason while they're kicking back and relaxing.
