Israel has 3 layers of protection. Dome is the final and closest. 2 problems with intercept systems, ammunition and targeting.

Just like drones, the new buzz word is saturation. Irans first wave of attacks was slow moving older munitions. Problem is they still need to be countered. So Israel spent crucial ammo on that wave. Then Iran started sending the heat.

Same tactics as Russia with the T-55 tank in Ukraine. While its ancient, they still kill people and are so numerous you expend scarce munitions trying to defeat them.
