Anyone watching Mobland?

Great cast. Just consolidated Tom Hardy as my fave actor. Pierce Brosnan, Helen Mirren the psycopath mother (well their all pyscopath's.....incidently just seen young Helen Mirren.....holy hecka!!!)

The Poms are doing great crim drama's lately.....Gangs of London another.
Great show but I'm struggling with with Brosnans forced Irish accent.
I've just come across Slow Horses on Apple+, probable my favorite show of the lot, Garry Oldmans plays his part so well you can smell him.

Due to other events the show that brought him to fame will likely not be shown much anymore.

Similar to Lisa Bonet from the Cosby show It was cool seeing him show up in other TV shows or movies. Obviously grown a lot since then so you might not be 100% sure initially so I'd need to check the credits.

Recently watch that America's Team documentary on the Dallas Cowboys. That was an enjoyable documentary.

It is amazing the footage they can pull out. Things like clips from the sideline with the quarterback being frustrated. Not sure if that is from the actual coverage or some other footage.

Our sports often get told they should deal with the media and the American sports are used as an example. Can kind of see it from this.

Watching this got me on a sport documentary kick.

Went through one on Netflix for the Boston Red Sox Comeback in 2004 to break their longstanding title drought. Came back in a seven game series against the Yankees after being 3-0 down.

Now going through a Tour de France series. I cycle but don't understand it too much. When watchign it live I used to look at the bikes and the scenary. This series shows the team aspect, goes through various teams and what they want to achieve. The different stage types.

Anyone watching Knight of the Seven Kingdoms?

A lot of people have been burnt out from how Game of Thrones ended. House of the Dragon I don't think has taken off like GOT. That show is taking a while to heat up and get to the war.

Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is a different story to those. Not as big scale wise.

The main criticism ofI've seen of it is the episodes are too short which is a good thing as it means people are left wanting more.

I'm enjoying it - kind of feels like Game Of Thrones meets last of the summer wine. Gentle pace, small world.

Really enjoying it. Much simpler plot in a good way, main actor suits the role and the little bald boy is brilliant.

Enjoying it, like that it’s a very different tone and scale to GOT. I’ve read the novellas and it’s a pretty simple bunch of stories but it’s been adapted pretty well

I've read the graphic novels.

Recently brought the books. Will try and go trough them soon. Currently on my 5th Jack Reacher book since Christmas so will need to halt those first. Also need to read and pass an exam for work.

Did the Reacher show get you onto the books? Pretty decent adaptations and the books coming out like clockwork around Xmas each year is always handy-although the quality has dipped since his brother took over the writing

The show got me thinking about reading them. I brought one (Tripwire) a year or two back but it took a while to get to reading it.

Enjoy the show. The show and the books make the Tom Cruise movies an even harder watch now. He's too small and also seems like he's playing generic Tom Cruise action character #8.

I've been reading the books in order starting from two skipping 3. Then missing the ones that have been adapted as TV shows or movies. I know they don't need to be read in order but Tripwire left him in a living situation that doesn't fit the character. I wanted to see how that was handled.

On my first written in the first person (The Enemy). It is a bit weird getting used to. I wasn't supposed to start another one but thought I'd read the start to see how I'll go. I have a few Star Wars books in a series I'm finding the start a hard read. If you can get through the start your often good.

I find the movies a good watch if you forget Tom Cruise is supposed to be playing Reacher. The shows are a much better depiction I think.

Spartacus.
A lot of Hori Māoris acting in there with a few aussies lol.
You got to ignore the cgi in the first couple episodes, but based on a true story about a Soldier who became a slave, then a gladiator who led a slave rebellion that nearly took out Rome.
Goat show

Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is good, but each episode is so short I keep pausing in paranoia of it ending.

It takes so long to make each season of anything good these days and there is not much of it. Same as gaming. I find myself having to rewatch each series any time there is a new season due to the time in between. I'm gutted Fallout is finished again, it is fun.

I finally got around to watching Mobland with the Prime subscription for Fallout. It is worth watching for some of the acting, especially Tom Hardy. Some of the content is a bit daft.

Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is probably the first TV series in years I've actually watched basically the moment it comes out, more out of convenience cos I happened to finally sign on to Neon over the holidays with a half price first month promo, and I knew there were a few series on there I needed to finally get to (e.g. Penguin, True Detective, White Lotus, Barry, Breaking Bad, Succession, Chernobyl.... etc)

It's been enjoyable so far, and that's coming from someone who has no emotional attachment to the GOT world (binged with my then-partner over Covid lockdown times as I had never watched it with everyone else in the world when it first aired).

Quite the novelty watching something that didn't have spoilers in the back of my mind from mates/colleagues/internets discussion of key plot points/twists/deaths that I may have inadvertently (or advertently) heard over the months/years since said shows first came out πŸ˜…

(e.g. Penguin, True Detective, White Lotus, Barry, Breaking Bad, Succession, Chernobyl.... etc)

Speaking of these shows :

Penguin - loved it, like the movie totally forget that it's Colin Farrell behind the makeup, he IS the smarmy ever-doublecrossing flawed sociopath. Then just when you find yourself feeling a little bit sorry for him, he goes and does something even more depraved to make you realise "oh yeah f@ck this guy" πŸ˜… Sofia similarly great in that you can quickly feel sympathy for her past traumatic experiences but damn she can really flip the switch and do some f@cked up sh!t too hah!
I reckon they should just carry on with exploring more of this seedy Gotham underworld in the episodic TV format, getting down and dirty into more of the villains backgrounds and misdeeds with Batman just being mentioned in passing (or brief cameos) but not the focus (he's got the movies after all).

True Detective - Finally got around to watching season one (Woody & Matt McAlrightAlrightAlright) which my mates have raved about for years. Talk about seedy underbellies, this one gets pretty dark, but dirty crime thrillers are my jam (both visual and written mediums), so was a bit of a ride seeing where this one went.
I've heard it goes downhill from here, but will eventually get through all of them.

White Lotus - had watched the first season at some point last year, binged S2 & S3 over the break. Kind of turn-your-brain-off guess who's gonna get killed and/or caught doing what depraved sexual acts with who πŸ˜…. Entertaining enough in the moment, though shock value wears thin pretty quick. Shout out to NZ actress Morgana O'Neil in S3, one of the few movies/shows where the character with a hard NZ kiwi accent isn't the most cringy thing and is in fact the most likable character of the lot!

Barry - Saw a couple of episodes of this on a plane (same with Penguin & True Detective), found the premise quite intriguing (hired assassin wants to be an actor) so glad to finally get back to it and watch the first season in full.
Quirky dark comedy, pretty interesting seeing Bill Hader as a bit of a badass, which he is definitely not in most things he's in! Though was a bit weird watching this before True Detective, given there's an actor who plays a bit of a doofus in this but a total psycho in TD, which may have detracted a bit from the latter. Will get to later seasons after I've made my way through some other shows (e.g. Breaking Bad, Chernobyl, Succession as above!)

I got β€œone shot” (first Tom cruise movie) as a gift and got hooked and have been getting the new ones each year since around 2010. Started from the first and read through in order and caught up eventually.
Been meaning to check out a few of the SW books- particularly the plageus one as it looks like Disney won’t touch that again after the Acolyte

All of those moved over to HBO max in Aus when that launched.
Barry I started but it didn’t really stick- is it worth staying with?
If you liked white lotus β€˜your friends and neighbours’ on Apple TV is in a similar vein
