With the 2nd highest incarceration rate in the world
Why is that?
Is it a case of our laws being too lenient and it’s like catch and release, catch and release… and if it’s too lenient why is it so lenient? Is it the whole socitetal victim mentality that those in power are too scared to double down hard on crimes because they want their votes come election?

2015 stats but we have had historically high prison populations. Labour has decreased the prison population by 20% since being in with crime exploding and the Maori party policy is to get rid of jails by 2030…

NZ wasn't 2nd in the world in 2015, not even close - and NZ is not close in 2023.
We're somewhere around 100th in the world for incarcerations.
The worst countries have over 600 p/100 000.
NZ has rarely ever been over 200 p/100 00

Episodes 13-15 of the podcast
i listened to the final episode this afternoon.
Just gotta say he is a poor presenter, a poor investigator, and seems to hate the Police.
Dunno whether it is a coincidence but a lot of the people he spoke to either had a criminal past, or hated the Police.
Also, it seems the Police did speake to many people in Whangamata including the guy Turner. they would have heard most of what Wolf found,
I repeat my earlier guess, is that the murders were the result of a drug deal gone wrong, the Police could not find enough evidence to charge anybody, because they were all a bunch liars, so they were sparing the family, and the memory of the poor victims the bad publicity.
Oh, and Tamihere killed Heidi, dunno about Sven though.
