Watched Superman last night

First thoughts

Easily the most insecure weakest Superman in franchise history

Louis Lane has more balls than him.
It’s sad. No one respects Superman. Even the dog. Getting totally dominated in that interview scene was cringe. She’s definitely a leftie 😉

Bradley Cooper was cringe also.

Breaking news, flying American comic book character is cringe
Hollywood likes to make a lot of stuff political. James Gunn was talking about Superman being an immigrant.

Then I saw someone mention how that was topical in the comics. So they made it that he wasn't born until he landed on earth so he's technically American.

Surely there is more important things to concentrate on. Especially as the movie business still hasn't bounced back post pandemic.

Concentrate on stories and reduce their budgets.

The budgets for a lot of these movies both the production and marketing is insane. To the point some movies need to make half a billion dollars to break even.

On the crazy budgets. Some of these movies could almost pay for the waterfront stadium.

Some of the high profile movies you get shown so much of the movie. Either clips or you get shown too much of the story you can easily skip it.

Sometimes it is nice to see a movie you didn't know was coming out. Basically you haven't been bombarded with all of the marketing. I saw this week there is a new I know what you did last summer movie coming out. Another remake or sequel of an older franchise but it's one that hasn't had a movie for a while.

I was also wanting to see F1. At least that isn't a sequel, prequel etc.

Oh it’s by the top gun maverick director, that was awesome and I heard F1 has the same energy

It’s a bit sad DC is doing emo batman and now Superman - Robert Pattinson needed Catwoman, Penguin, Alfred and Gordon to solve his problems or save him and blew up the whole motorway just to chase down the Penguin 😂 Sup was talked down the whole time including his (cameo at the end)

And Joker 2, the epic Joaquin Phoenix got gang graped and more in his own movie 😱🤦😬

Is Jurassic world rebirth worth watching with my kid? The trailers looked good but everyone’s trashing it though the box office is strong lol

You don’t like another breeding subplot from James Gunn?

DC always had a darker more serious tone to their movies. It rivalled Marvel who were more into the theatrics and cheap jokes. I don’t know why they hired Gunn for this nor why Henry Cavill was replaced. Had they kept Cavill it would have been very interesting to see how he handled the change in personality from Stoic Superman to leftie Superman with a hint of not all that straight

It was a bit odd Gunn stating the immigrant angle as it wasn’t particularly obvious in the movie. The movie pushed more the values instilled in him made him a hero vs a conqueror, although he was a pretty whiny Superman and a bit of a push over they got the inherit ‘goodness’ coming through with the character

He probably didn’t intend for this but Sup is literally the model immigrant whereas his parents in this, or Zod and his gang in previous films are the bad immigrants, anyway the same Variety reporter that was baiting for politics during the promotion was the same guy who interviewed Rachel Zegler in the infamous WEIRD WEIRD interview 😂

I collapsed in 2019 after the success of mission impossible fall out when Chris McQuarrie said he and Henry pitched to WB to direct MOS2 and write a script for Green Lantern (Tom Cruise was circling the role and Chris would have had the MI cast and composer on board), and WB told him to piss off 😂🤦🤦🤦

Saw Jaws 50th anniversary trailer in front of Superman the other day, looking forward to getting to see that on a big screen in August!

Superman was OK, pretty cheesy overall (as is expected with James Gunn), a bit too much wacky SuperDog for my liking, but I'm sure the kids will love him 😅

I think the core issue is tone. DC was always the heavier franchise and now it's caught between Marvel-style jokes and leftover Snyder expectations. Gunn brings energy but it clashes with what fans expect from Superman. If Cavill stayed, that contrast could have been explored instead of rebooted.
