Lol Boyd would be so far down the list for Origin

I know there's probably a few makeshift options, but really -
Ben Hunt (I think it would be a no)
DCE
Sam Walker

Then, imo its Fogerty and Boyd next cab off the ranks.

Given Dearden is only injured for Origin 1 youd likely go with DCE or Hunt, but if he was ruled out for the series I think it would be Walker, then potentially Boyd next in line?

Any other Qld halves im missing?

Damn i had read somewhere Spencer is on about $550k which i thought was a good deal, surely the Roosters didnt pay that dude $800k?!

Not including his very first year, Spencer averaged about 25 min for the Riff, averaging 80m a game. Hes now averaging 39 minutes a game for the Roosters and hes averaging 79m a game lol.

Hes an impact prop - maybe one of the best in the game but I don't think hes worth over 550k
  • Contract Status: Contracted to the Roosters until the end of the 2027 season.
  • Salary Details: Reports in 2024 suggested an extension pushed his salary to roughly $800,000 per year.
  • Previous Deal: He initially signed with the Roosters on a deal estimated around $520,000–$550,000 per season.
  • Performance Note: Recent reports (May 2026) have highlighted pressure regarding his salary tag, with suggestions he may be looking at opportunities elsewhere before his contract

I still believe this is a smokescreen for something else. Not sure what though. However - if Luke is to be released at some point, we’ve set a precedent with a player swap with Barnett. Expect that to happen if the drums beat louder.

Note - TMM was signed for another year as insurance for Met and his injuries, and in case Boyd didn’t kick on. Him stepping up to career best form means the club have options now and Luke has no leverage around selection nor entitlement to the 7 jersey. If brings Jett and Linnane closer to grade.

Luke has to rely on hard work and winning the jersey back via Cup - get some reps in and demand it through being better. Simple as that.

Same as Gannon, TMM, Niukore, Berry, EIT, Fatialofa, Linnane, and one of Ali or Pompey when RTS is fit. AKP was another who earned the jersey through performance and took his chance when presented.

If not, Bears Eels Dragons Titans Dogs may come knocking. I’ll happily swap Metcalf for Critta or Kini for instance.

Boyd will stay as reported. As I believe will Chitty who just clicks in this team. He is home here - well, for at least another year.

The question is who are we signing to allow Met to be released as I don’t think we are done with external recruitment for 2027 and 2028 yet.

Whatever happens. I predict our first premiership to land in 2026 2027 or 2028. The window is now.

If I was a betting man, 2026 we make a GF. 2027 we win it. (Bold I know)

The players we have for 2027-2028 will be members of a premiership winning team the way we are tracking.

Luke needs to figure out if that team includes him or not.

Whatever happens, moves are afoot across the league. Right now, given the tax free rules with PNG we are in a pretty good spot as our kiwi boys can’t really benefit from that and Australian teams will weaken.

The team that wins our first title will be forever legends. That is closer than ever.
All this after Nathan Cleary decides he’s going to market and they share the same agent

Not actually convinced that’s right Tookey 2.0? It says he signed an extension with roosters in 2024 but he only signed initially with them then. Could be the $550k or so you initially thought?

Others may disagree but Campbell is also a smoky. Never lacks in the effort areas, fast, great kicking game. Can leave the organization to Munster. Always a support runner. The exact same reasons they picked derden over DCE.

But I'd assume they'd want to blood walker over DCE/hunt. That is an old as fuck halves combo otherwise.

In saying that, surely he's a good chance going to camp in the larger playing group. And then he could convince at training?

Mam would be in and around a call up he’s been decent this year and been in camp already

Yes they do indeed

But that's a lot different to what Damo was suggesting.

Fringe players will have game numbers that trigger auto extensions as well.

But Metcalf got the bag, which would not come with these clauses
What does Metcalf got the bag mean?

Any player can have injury related clauses built into their contracts eh. We have no idea what Metcalf's looks like.

The club would have been stupid not to put a clause in his contract given that Metcalf was injured at the time of signing and the club had a lot of power thanks to the timing of that injury.

Imagine sitting down with Metcalf wearing moon boot or whatever and saying yeah all good here is our marquee allotment mate, even though there is no guarantee that you will ever play NRL again or even have the speed left in those legs.

Also Metcalf if Rumours were true at the time in accepting 900k took less than the rumoured 1.2 mil offers from other parties.

Bottom line none of us know what the contract actually is or what it looks like.

And Injury clause is a great discussion point though, because for a player with Metcalf's extensive history you would expect only the most desperate franchises would go there.

Yes we wanted Metcalf badly, but the way our club is tracking we are far from being desperate.

Yeah i wondered that but surely a Mam and Munster halves pairing is pretty light on kicking? Deffo an area Boyd has excelled in this year, getting us arpund the field and putting us in spots to attack and win the game.

Id rather have Boyd doing that and be less spectacular, and leave the x factor and big moments to the other players like Walsh, Munster, Hammer and co.

The way wahs fans have turned on Metcalf is crazy work

I think critique is being frequently confused for turning on Metcalf.

I don't see a single hater laden anti Metcalf post in all of this.

People are just being critical of the situation rather than personalizing it.

That will change if we discover Metcalf threw his toys, and that vitriol is just part of life.

Shaun Johnson came under much harsher criticism week in week out than these Metcalf discussions.

I guarantee you that every normal person on here wishes the best for Metcalf, especially if that is playing for us.

There's been so much talk of him being selfish and sulking and not being a team player etc. on this forum and elsewhere. It's absolutely been personal.
