NRL NRL 2026 General Recruitment Thread

I'd be offering Egan a reduced deal year by year deal but a future coaching and developing Hookers at the club.
Other players talk about his smarts so the club tapping into that would be smart.

Wouldn't we offer Egan less money as Healey and Taufua come through and develop further? Isn't that the succession plan?

Didn't realise Egan would be 30 by the time his contract ends, but even then id still think Egan at 32, 33 years of age for 30 minutes off the bench would be extremely valuable.

But Tafua is 22 in June, is he happy to be behing both Healey and Egan if theyre are resigned. Both are off contract in 2027 so can be approached come November, so im keen to see what we do. Its likely we wont be keeping all 3

I think it will be a case of making an offer that won't match another club who need an experienced player in the spine and he moves on. I like Egan but the head knocks and injuries are catching up with him i think and by the time he is 30 I would expect us to be looking at other options to replace him.

I'd be clinging to Egan tight until someone actually proves they have the goods to be a long term hooker.

Even in the halves we've had SJ x 2, who have we ever produced at hooker despite every year having 2-3 "next big things"?
Absolutely with Egan he will helping Healey and the young hookers couldn't have a better mentor. Even if his minutes are declining

He’d fall in line id be all for it depending on price of course you can tell he didn’t fit that roosters culture like TMay

For sure. It's always a bit sketchy trying to figure out why players thrive and sink under certain systems.

If it worked out the same way that our recent signings have; our pack would the best in the NRL, by a LOOOONG way.

I know our recruitment isnt done for 2028 onwards, but was a little worried at how little experience we have booked in currently.

I know there will be some who aren't resigned that hopefully will be (Ford, , Boyd, CHT, Egan, Pompey potentially) but currently we have JFH, Clark, and Wahbrick) who will either be over 30 or >100 games played.

Our next step down will be those young guys who are 22-26 with a

I think wed likely need to pick up an experienced player or two outside of our current crop of players.

Leniu isnt the kinda guy I would go for specifically, but I think there could be a case made for him being a decent pick up if the price was right I could see it working out pretty well.

Of course, its important to remember that in this scenario wed be getting a better version of Leniu (as all recruits improve under Webby) than he is currently

Damien Cook is 35 this year so we probably have this version of Egan for another 3 seasons, he could be a "one club man" type and like others said continue here post career, been here for almost a decade by the end of current contract.

He only needs to sprain an elbow and out for a few weeks and we'd have Healey + Taufua in the 17.....I feel our attack's slick with Egan though, he and Boyd are the key to our attack structures.

Cook has fallen off hard the last couple of years though

Rumours/news doing the rounds:

Roosters putting together a massive package deal to try lure both Clearys to the books for 2028.

Dragons will likely not being re signing the majority of their current off contract players for 2026. Guler & Leulia are the only two names being mentioned for extensions at this stage. Word is also they’re happy for Holmes to speak with other clubs for next season.

Cody Walker is in talks with Souths about a 1 year extension.

Ben Hunt in talks with the donkeys for a 1 year extension however it will be a lot less then what he is currently on.

Jenkins is set to receive offers of upto 500k a season (currently on 180k) preference is to remain with the riff however it’s said they can only offer him around 250k a year.

Storm are in deep talks with Shibasaki.

Dane Gagai has said he wants to go around again next season however knights may not be able to offer a reasonable deal. Bears are monitoring this as well as a couple of other clubs.

One of Tanah Boyd or CHT will not be re signed by the warriors for next season. Dragons said to be interested in both players to add more depth to their halves alongside Atko.

Jake Turbo is likely to activate his player option for next season.

Foran is being heavily discussed to be manly’s long term coach past 2026. If this happens manly are said to be looking at bringing in Matt Ballin to be his right hand man.

Kurt Mann is chasing a 2 year deal to finish out his career. Word is the dogs are only wanting to offer a 1 year deal but discussions are continuing between the two parties
Someone saw CHT around Townsville the other day.
