Didn't old Jim suffer from that imposter syndrome where he assumed the accent and identity of those in front of him? Probably a superpower for a politician.

Yes, he did. I remember listening to him while he was talking with Pierre Trudeau, All of a sudden Big Jim was Canadian.
I remember his broad oirish accent when he met the Irish PM. He was NZ's Leonard Zelig long before David Seymour was Canadian.

He had an Irish background, not sure whether it was his parents or Grandparents.
My Glaswegian accent still comes out faintly after a few jars and it's been 70 years. Both my parents spoke the Gaelic, but not often and it was generally some profanity.
