Politics πŸ—³οΈ NZ Politics

Schadenfruede? You betcha.

The politics of the right in this country have enacted deliberate regressive destructive policies. And it's coming home to roost.

Despite all the oil crisis talks on here the coalitions response has seen them increase in the latest Taxpayers’ Union-Curia poll:

β€˜On these results, Labour is down 1 point to 33.4%, National is up 1.4 to 29.8%, NZ First has increased 3.9 points to 13.6%, Act is up 1.5 to 9%, the Green Party is down 2.7 to 7.8% and Te Pāti Māori is down 0.6 to 2.6%.

If that was converted to seats in the House, the centre-right bloc would be on 65 seats, enough to govern, while the centre-left would be on 55 seats.’

Seems the voters are mature enough to not expect the state to hold their hand all the time.

Great news

With Tova as well the media lurches to the left and away from the voters.

Great fact and evidence based article highlighting why people are turning away from lots of mainstream media:

β€˜To many New Zealanders the media are not seen as disinterested reporters. They are seen as employees of companies with ideological agendas who not only don’t understand New Zealanders who are not left-leaning but show active hostility towards them.’

I hope this gets sorted peacefully before the cyclone hits.

Not the best place to be. Up on a roof when we are expecting extremely high winds.

Once again, trolling.

Let's look at this in a bit more detail and explore some of the touchpoints.

The poster is confirmed as a troller, and also economically and politically at the further end of the right wing of politics. Act for certain, probably further than that. Locked into a right wing ideology, certainly very much in favour of the status quo and the regressive politics we see in play right now, as well as the neoliberal orthodoxy.

The poster quotes a David Farrar opinion piece, which is pretty much all factually incorrect propaganda for the right. David Farrar himself was part of the attack politics known as Dirty Politics for quite some time, and is very closely aligned with the National Party, and it's associated underworld. Very well documented by Nicky Hagar in the book Dirty Politics.

We're currently witnessing first hand how destructive and regressive this government has been. Almost every political strategy and policy, economic and otherwise has been to the detriment of most New Zealanders. The emperor has no clothes, and in us backing the United States through Winston directly, and ACT indirectly through it's thinktank backers, the emperor literally has no clothes.

This poster's ideology is a failed one. Although it's been a success for the select few.

Yet this poster will continue to lie and spin, as will certain others. Great, good on them, as sup42 has pointed out, it's better for our health not to engage with the rubbish.

This poster, who has had ample opportunity to speak out based on conscience, instead chooses to double down.

What they are actually complaining about, is being held to account. They are complaining about someone speaking truth to power. The media are clearly corporate driven, and we need strong voices to hold the oligarchs, the rich financiers, the regressive conservatives to account. And hold Labour to account. And hold the Greens to account. etc. As I'm sure the voices the poster is complaining about will.

It's funny how being a human being with integrity, and speaking truth to power is somehow seen as a left thing. Great!

I'm certain there are many good right leaning people who see the importance in both of those things, it's just the few far right on here seem incapable.

More generally, journalists are under attack around the world more than ever. This is no coincidence in an era of growing authoritarianism, the far right, oligarchs who just don't want to obey any laws, and those working towards regressive outcomes for everyone but themselves.

Israel, which truly has become a genocidal warmongering state has been murdering journalists for the last two years in targeted campaigns.

The screeds of successful disinformation and conspiracy nonsense which painted people like Trump as the saviour, again, funded by big money on the very right conservative corporate world among others has spread crap far and wide, and you see it repeated here.

Yet his billionaire mates own most of the commercial media in the states, consolidating to a handful of billionaires controlling traditional and social media. These are all hard right owners.

We see it here with Grenon and NZME, with the open attacks by Act and WInston, and the bowing down to the Police minister, as state media is threatened with funding cuts.

When what the world needs is the sunlight investigative journalism brings. Integrity. Holding truth to power.

Good summation until that last sentence, not sure what hand-holding has to do with the oil crisis.
Labour ahead of the Nats but Greens and TPM are a shambles so that block is doomed again by the look of it.

I’ve got a relocatable home propped up in the Waikato waiting on temporary foundations. We have put extra strops to tie it down but it’s very vulnerable if the cyclone hits it πŸ˜–

So, here we go again. What parts aren't factually correct?

And can you please explain how big oil has influenced the Govt? (Post months ago you had trouble replying to)

So, Tova getting in a Gotcha moment with Baldy was about being held to account? Jesus wept, with the shit going on in the world in the moment she thinks the number of māori MP's is an issue.

Couldn't she just have asked about the fuel crisis?

And you wonder why in Farrar's blog the trust is down the gurgler. Bluesky and The Guardian are a great read, however anyone with a modicum of balance in their lives would cover a few more bases. Some of us do because it allows us to change an opinion and thoughts on many subjects.

Unless it's not actually about the humanity, maybe more the idealism?

Here we go again Rick indeed. I say the same about the incessant crap from wiz.

It's very obvious where paths forward lie for new Zealand, and it's not with the politics of the current government.

Good luck with the storm, that goes for everyone

I think that was a good example of Luxon being a sit-on-the-fence guy

He had a perfect opportunity to demonstrate that National, not Labour, has at least had a māori leader during its entire history. But despite this, race isn’t a factor in appointing someone to a job

But alas, he demurred

The guy is a dork but my point is that journalists or whatever the breakfast show host is called should be quizzing the PM on current issues rather than trying to score points. Made her look just as bad as him tbh.

You are correct in that his easy enough reply should have been "We appoint on merit and ability to do the job, do you have a problem with that?"
