NRL NRL Round 5 2026 Discussion

It must suck having away fans come to your home stadium and take over. If the titans don't start winning then how can they survive?

back in 2010, I went to the qualifying final on the GC between us and the Tits. Back then, the tits weren't bad and made finals on a somewhat regular basis under Cartwright. Yet I still recall us outnumbering their supporters. So there are some serious problems with sustaining sporting franchises on GC that go deeper than the recent performance of the tits. I think the GC suns in the AFL are also struggling off the field, even though they are currently leading the AFL.

I lived there GC for 6 months and it’s not a small place lol, should have enough population to support their teams, is it immigration/emigration for a tourist city? But again most are residents even Otago get their kids to Highlanders games so…weird

There's also the fact that most league fans on GC are actually Broncos supporters because they went for them during the period when there was no GC team. So their fan base is just naturally small to begin with. But more generally, I feel this is just an external management problem, rather than a GC problem per-se. In my mind, there's no reason why they can't work as a franchise: being in a resort city brings its own advantages which they clearly haven't leveraged. The Raiders in the NFL are a good model for how it could work.

We have a place in Robina so Mrs Rick can spend time with the grandkids, only a few hundred metres from the stadium so been a member there as well for a few years. Great stadium but never really had a strong fan base other than the first year or two of their existence. Shame as it is a good venue with easy transport options
Not really sure what the answer is other than winning (best assistance you can get). Look what has happened to our home games since Webby took over.

Maybe give Hannay a chance to build a team and see how it goes. Hasler was a disaster and that's on management.

I haven't been to a game there since about 2008 but I enjoyed the experience and the stadium. Great viewing and catering.

For one reason or the other there's always been a problem with GC clubs with attendance. A few franchises have failed as well as the Crushers in South Brisbane
