I'm one of the few that support the Mankad, but that one was very situationally uncomfortable.
Test cricket and the other shorter forms are totally different. When picking test batsmen you need to look at batting averages, look at the higher average players. Also analyze their dismissals. Faults in technique and patience will be exposed at test level. It is why they are called tests. Fast scoring is well and good but occupying the crease is important.
Bowlers of whatever type need to be consistent and accurate. Case in point was Heath Davis, frighteningly quick but terribly inaccurate. I have a question regarding NZ fast bowlers, why do they seem to break down seemingly so much more than other countries. I heard a story their training programs include road running rather than running on grass.
I know this is turning into a novel but control what you can, fielding is a classic. You can disrupt innings for time and runs bowling to set fields.

I didnt see the whole game. Hard to judge with how the game went and the conditions. Matt Rowe bowled well for us.I didn't watch the matchInruin who are shaping as potential stars for us - or did all our players look bad in this match due to the pitch?
I think its one of those games were you just go lets see what happens in the next two or three before you can make any sort of judgement

The prospects in our side coming into the tournament and ones to watch are:
Rowe - who took 5 fer in this game and made national news earlier this year by taking 6 wickets in an over at school boy level in a high school match
Tom Jones our number 3 bat If for no other reason than he is Coney's grandson
The captain Jackson at number 5 who top scored for us in the opening match
Let's see how those three back up against Pakistan this Saturday. And of course will see if anyone else shines.
