My thoughts is it’s all going to depend how the game plays out.

If everyone goes hard early and has full squad towards the end then the round bonus figure becomes somewhat irrelevant towards the end.

In this game there’s always a big advantage going earlier that is hard to compensate adequately.
What about if we keep the 400/500/600 bonus AND also

1Roundmasters in rounds 9 to 12 get three bids instead of two.

Would that help?

I’ll have a bit more of a look next week, can’t believe we’re less than a month from starting, what a whirlwind year!
Cheers. Wizards has talked me into keeping the 400/500/600 increments

But what if we ALSO gave three bids instead of two bids to Roundmaster in rounds 9 to 12?

Happy for you to come back to me later.

It’s fine, I don’t think you can adequately compensate for being round master late as towards the end the money pool between players becomes so significant the round masters bonus doesn’t really make an impact, especially if several players are out.

Which gets to the next question, how will the players order be chosen?

Another thought I have had is that Round 12 has already been declared a round where Chris Hodges players are available but Chris may not intervene. So that gives the round 12 round master an advantage of sorts even if all the contestants get that advantage,

1) Early mover in this game won't be as pronounced as previous games due to the use of 12 rounds of letters. Each round will have someone useful to go after even though some letters are more rich than others.

2) Even though I can't adequately compensate I can make an attempt and I am sure any advantages I give to those late roundmasters will be appreciated.

3) I am going to make an executive decision to decide that we will have the 400/500/600 arrangement AND also 3 bids instead of two for the roundmasters in rounds 9 through 12.

4) I will go ahead and add that to the rules but potentially take it out if @Mr. Brownstone has concerns after he has reflected.

I don’t think the game has to be 100% fair. There has to be luck with the draw, what other players do, Hodges, etc.

All part of the game.

I get shafted every year with the playing order and you don’t hear me complaining (much 😜)

Wizards I have been for a walk along Petone Beach and am double guessing myself.

Would you be able to give me some feedback on these options

1) Leave it as Up to Round 8 400 Bonus/Round 9 to Round 11 500/Round 12 600
2) Change it subtly to up to Round 8 400 Bonus/Round 9 to Round 11 550/Round 12 650
3) Keep it Round 8 400 Bonus/Round 9 to Round 11 500/Round 12 600 and add the added feature of the late round roundmasters get 3 bids per player instead of two.

I am leaning towards option 2. Slightly richer than option one since my gut feeling option one needed to be adjusted slightly. And maybe option 3 is getting really convoluted and breaks my keep it simple rule.

Do you agree?

Edit - I am going to run with option 2 unless anyone disagrees.
