International Pacific Championship

Just got back from the game. Shout out to Toa fans for bringing the energy.

Kiwi fans.. fucking shit turnout as per usual lately. Casuals will all show up to "bleed" Maroon/Blue when they play Origin here though.

Great game, the collisions were massive, Tapines hit on Molo off the kick off was insane. Haas is just a ridculous specimen.

Tonga v Samoa in Brissy next week will be an insane atmosphere. Praying for an MMT win, but gut feel is Samoa gets up and we're going to be sweating on the Tonga game at Eden Park.

Was good tight game could have gone either way, disappointing Kiwi turn out, hopefully there's a way to turn it around, maybe NZRL need to stop trying to squeeze every cent out of people's pockets and focus on bums on seats first, I get it when Auckland is predominantly the mainstay of Rugby league in NZ and the the Island nations have there own teams to support now, which in the past would have supported the Kiwi's, without the Samoa and Tonga crowds the international game in NZ would be shit... Pressures all on Samoa this weekend, another banger of a game...

Have the Warriors with all their sold out games stolen all the Kiwi league fans?
Has the NZRL got to do some sort of marketing campaign to get fans back in touch with the National side.
The Kangaroo's can't sell tickets in Australia either.
So definitely some sort of disconnect going on.

The whole tier system needs to change too - Tonga and Samoa are not Tier 2. Kiwis who are eligible for Origin should be allowed to play.
If Australia and New Zealand can get the fans invested as Tonga and Samoa have that would be a pretty amazing series.

Whyte was insane.
Really all our forwards were dominant. Fish, Tapine, Leota, Whyte, Clark all ran hard.

Foz kicking was pretty poor, but he was fine otherwise.
Brown really good

When Mclean grows into that body he could become the best centre in the game. Good call from the Kiwis last year to get him into the team and stop any Origin nonsense.

All in all everyone played pretty damn well. Feel a bit bad for Charnze - hes a lovevable guy and always plays hard but I think he'd be better off retooling his game in the centres tbh....

Blame the media. All they talk about is who is going to put their hand up for an Origin jumper, you'll be lucky to hear mention of Kangaroos a few times all year.

They've positioned Origin as the pinnacle, so it makes sense people aren't as engaged with something they see as lesser.

I do think the Kiwis have it tough having to get engagement immediately after a very long season of league, but the pricing doesn't help. Compared to the ABs it's value, but compared to the Warriors it's not.

That game set the tone high for Aussie vs England and Tonga vs Samoa coming up. Think the turnout is nothing more than Pacific nations follows their team hard and will always be supported over the Kiwis when they play, with Kiwis supported as a 2nd team when playing Aussie or England. I reckon the stars going back to represent has had a bearing as well as league coming across as the more blue collar game, though the Tongan wave in the 2011 rugby world cup probably indicates it’s more the pacific nations support of their team that always sees strong support when here

I thought Charnze made two poor errors but bounced back well in the 2nd half. He is signed through 2027. We have him for the next two years it appears.

They pick stupid times

The Kiwis/Aussie final 2 years ago was like 3pm on Saturday afternoon in Hamilton ffs. From memory they played the Samoa/Aus game in Townsville or something silly too

Todays game of 6pm was a cool time to watch it on TV for me but I think a poor time if you want to go a game. Either play it Saturday night or like 4pm on a Sunday.

The price is pretty insane untill they put the sale out. It was 3-5x a warriors ticket.
