Footy field was no place for politics in our day.

Remember when Sol Kata swapped sides with Hiku when the coaches discovered he couldn't pass to his right? Fuck me, glad those days are over after the Webolution.
He could be a destructive player at times Kata, had the Polynesian sidestep down pact. Was a hungus close to the line but a strong runner. We had a few centres in that mould, never forget Hurrell running with legs raised and smashing Tupou’s teeth.

Tupou married a girl I grew up with- meet him at a wedding once and asked him about that- said he just put his head in the wrong place.

At the end of 2019 I would have told you that Ken was potentially the player at the club who'd improved the most in our history.
Steep decline since thenView attachment 12669
Too slow, not athletic enough.

Would have helped if he lost 5kgs and gained some speed. Used all his younger years as a battering ram.

He probably should have gone to UK to make some cash. At 30-31 might not be much left for him.

My last impression of Ken wasn’t positive

Watched him at MSS against the Storm back in the day, where he just stood on the wing with a big sulky look and refused to get involved. His other winger Fus was just as bad. Body language was all wrong. Glad those days are behind us…

Crazy he went from Dally M winger of the year to absolutely obscurity in only a couple of years - similar to Fus.

It always seemed a confidence thing with him, when he was on he was a genuinely talented player.
I think a lot of these boys survived on pure natural talent, then minor niggles, lose 1% of speed or teams study some tape. These help to negate what makes them good.

Again just my opinion but a lot of them never had the work ethic or the desire to work in face of adversity. We've had so many of these players and unless they go early to other clubs (paps, Katoa) then they don't grow. This is a fault of our pathways until now I think.

Fus, Konny, Ken, Kata I feel all fell in this category. I am sure there are more, but after working this, these 4 players are all in the same kind of era, so maybe it is the coaching/management?

Anyways, hope Ken goes well.

I've said it before but I think the Maumalo we saw in 2019 was one the most improved players we've ever seen at the club. He went from a guy who looked uncoordinated to being one of the best finishers in the comp. Unfortunately, after he left the team in Australia to come home he regressed just as fast
