Those top 50 players look to be more 1998-2018, is the intention to have nearly all current players not subject to the Chris Hodges player manager risk?
I didn't know they ended in 2018 but if so that has worked out wonderfully as yes I don't want much overlap between the Hodges stable and current players. Keeps things cleaner and avoids confusion. That was serrendipitious though.

One thing I’d suggest is that top 50 is classic telegraph dribble. I think it misses some better players from that era that would be more relevant to our game than a few that made the list. Could I suggest players in this game having the opportunity to nominate replacements for a few in there? Would just be good to get a top 50 where all 50 would be keenly sought after.

I’m flabbergasted the list would excluded T-Rex!

I am open to adding some names to the list but not subtracting anybody. If we end up with a list of 55 instead of 50 that is ok

I think balance is important as I am not keen on adding say 20 extra people

I am betwixt and between how to allow people to suggest additional players in terms of the mechanics of the suggestion process so that I avoid getting as I say 20 suggestions

If you have any feedback let me know

I will apply my mind to this tonight

I do quite like keeping it to 50 additional players because it will keep the teams to something more closely resembling a really strong NRL side as opposed to an all time great team assembled in previous comps (not one of wizards teams obviously 😛, his were shit). But seriously, a top 50 from the NRL era that doesn’t include SJ but has Preston Campbell at number 30?? No Wendell Sailor, but El Masri is there.

Also there’s obviously players like Langer & Daley (and Clyde & Stuart) that played in the NRL era but we’re past their best by then. Do we consider including them or keep it to playing ability during the NRL era? I’m sweet with either.

How about each of us get to nominate 1 additional former player to add to Chris Hodges stable? Must have played an NRL game from 1998 on? We could also remove any current players, think that might just be Jason Taumalolo? So would end up with 60 players on top of all current players?

Why don’t we just each start with that one player each then?

Give up on getting Clyde into you team mate 😉

Hi

I like your idea and propose the following

1 Jason T is dropped from the list but eligible in the 2025 group of players

2 each round master may nominate an additional player from the 1998 to 2018 era as being eligible for just that round
That additional player is called the “wild card player “ for the round
The wild card player may be bid on bu anybody
The wild card player will belong to the Chris hodges stable
Naturally because the round master has a bonus payment they may have an advantage chasing that player

3 we need to clarify what we mean by coming from the 1998 to 2018 era and would like to discuss that. Should Langer etc be allowed as a starting point I wish to ask mr b or wizards about the current list
Are all those guys debutants after 1998 or just played in that time range ????

No some debuted before 1998. I like the way you’ve proposed all that, makes each round a bit more strategic for the round master

I like a more current age group to appeal to younger/ never players.

Brownstones Boomers is getting a little boring 😉

Ok let’s come back to langer
Also another rule the wild card player can start with any letter so as not to hamstring the round masters who go last

The beauty of this game is you can focus on the 2025 players if someone wants to

So hopefully that meets that need

I will be mankind a T rex rule that his minimum bid is only $10 000 instead of $200 000 for everyone else

For you it must be like watching the Panthers win every season? But seriously, this will be much more recent, I reckon an absolute max of 5 non-current players will be in any one team - and that would bring with it a lot of risk.

No respect for role players…

A game where it’s not just a greatest players list will sort the real selectors out from those just stacking their team with the 90’s Raiders 😉
I wish, I barely ever get my Raiders boys (love how writing the word ‘boys’ had my spellcheck unprompted offer me the option of ‘Boustead’ as an alternative, see even my phone is pro-boomer players)
