I like TMM and wanted him as 7 with Metcalf as 6 at the start of the season, but he’s ineffective as cover.

Has he done anything in any of his games as cover? Nothing like the impact from Walker last season.

Like when he played 6 beside SJ and didn’t see much ball, he’s ineffective in attack. He doesn’t have the size to do much in defence.

All or nothing for me with TMM.
Don't think it's fair to compare TMM with Walker considering their very different roles. Walker was primarily the bench middle, guaranteed for plenty of minutes at Lock/Prop AND we were lucky that he could cover the backline if we are really in a pinch.
Te Maire is just there to cover the backline + give Egan a rest where needed.

I agree that he should either be in the halves or not in the 17 though.

A few thoughts, we looked uninterested, maybe we took them to lightly, bye week blues who knows.. Two of there tries were scored going through a couple warrior cripples DWZ and Metcalf... should have played EIT he had been 18 man before, playing MTG feels like a farewell gesture, never been impressed from what I've seen of him at NSWs level, got found out big time.... I'm almost wanting Healey over Egan, I actually liked Healey and TMM sharing hooker/lock role, we played faster with them two on...Injuries and a greenhorn played a big role in this game, Panthers are going to look strong when they get there boys back

CHT went for heavy pressure, pulled out once the kicker was in the air, showing duty of care, and the kicker came down without injury.

Pretty sure there was the exact same scenario in the Dolphins game straight after, surprise surprise, no whistle.
I would say the hard done by part is he initially contacted before the kick, like if he pushes him over after the kick is completed i can get the penalty but clear contact prior to ball to boot in an effort to make him miss the kick

Recently Tapine came over with an intention of playing the bad guy and last night it was Sorensen. Interesting how Kiwis tend to lift when playing the Warriors or brings out extra motivation
I think Cleary really got his team up for it yesterday.
Probably using the schedule and Fish as motivation.
Leota come out like the GF a couple of years ago and was playing like someone stole something from him.
We had injuries, they were up for it.
A little wake up for us, which I don’t think is that bad.

I went into the game mentioning it will be interesting to see how the team looks without Capewell and it just confirmed to me how important he is currently, especially with his performance for Queensland

Still scratching my head as to why our game plan was to mimic the opposition. It was obvious the boys were told to shelve the offload game that worked so well against the Sharks — made us look flat and predictable.

MGT is a NSW Cup-level centre, nothing more at this stage. All three of his first-grade outings have exposed him defensively.

Our defensive line speed and kick chase were disjointed all night — no excuse for that after a full week off. The injuries didn’t help, and Luke’s cork noticeably limited our attacking structure.

Not sure how we still haven’t worked out how to get Leka one-on-one. He’s constantly getting the ball flat-footed and swamped by three or four defenders. Waste of a weapon.

DWZ going down might be a blessing in disguise — he’s been well off since returning. Probably unpopular, but TT never should’ve been dropped in the first place.

With Rocco and Capes back next week, we should see a more balanced 17. I’d go with Healey over TMM. Egan looked rusty and well off his usual tempo last night.

$1.24 favourites? Strap in for a character-building loss. Might as well print the L on the team sheet early. We don’t beat teams — we beat the odds. In reverse.

Onto the next….

100% he’s getting the ball consistently at the line with 4 defenders waiting for him. If you can’t put him through a hole just give him early ball with space and momentum to work something.
Another point is he’s on the left side and there’s never much going on that way as Charnze only links on the right so its not often we have an overlap, so defenders can just mark up.

Sure we focus on defence as defence wins games, but there’s basic stuff around creating space and confusing the defence that’s just completely absent from our team. We rely on individual brilliance.

Lots to work on to be a genuine title contender this year.

Yeah, was a bad call and I think it had an impact on the game play too, i got upset about that and the ridiculous call on Ford when it was all too late

If you are going to contact the kicker, you have to complete a safe regulation tackle. Dispite my disagreeance with the rule you can't just push them, it's been ruled that way for awhile now.

The options are -
1. Make contact before both their feet leave the ground and complete a stock standard tackle
2. Pressure and don't touch/make contact

Things you can't do -
1. Make contact once both their feet are off the ground
2. Make contact with the kicking leg while trying to put pressure on
3. Simply push them over as CHT did
