was thinking tackling techniques, not getting the correct combination of tacklers (high/low) to lock up the ball

also ruck speed was concerning vs Manly, Knights, Broncos, not dominant enough to lie all over the ball runners like Broncos did to us in the weekend
I don't recall our PTB speed being slow in those matches.

Last offseason we saw Ben Murdoch-Masila, Kina Kepu & Taniela Otukolo moved on despite all having at least one more season under contract. Guys who are coming into their final year of their deals, & don't get confirmation that they're wanted longer term, are most likely to jump ship.
It'd be interesting to learn of the conversations that the managers of the likes of Lussick, Tevaga & Curran are currently having with the club

Wait so he moved on those 3 players then called the rest to say I want you the position is yours to lose? 😂

Is he actually on the min? Would seriously change my POV on him if he is. Absolute bargain.
No way in hell he is. He just ticked off his 8th NRL season & none out of Kosi, Ale, Kepu, Sifakula, Zyon Maiu’u or Leiataua would have been paid more that him this year. He's in the top 26 so he ain't getting minimum. He will have never been in a position of power come negotiation time so he won't be getting paid overs but suggestions of minimum just don't add up

You reckon he’d be somewhere between $250-350k a season?

The next two years are going to be quite strategic for recruitment, - more so in the forwards in terms of managing the current contracted players / bringing through the exciting young guys/ signing others outside the club.

A number of our guys are contracted to the end of 2024, a number of our promising guys are currently 18-21 yrs and only a couple have had first grade exposure. Realistically these guys are 3 years away from really hitting their stride and fully developing a first grade build and being 1st grade acclimatised.

The 25 season also coincides with potentially a bigger pot to play with in recruiting a proven first grader- whatever that position might be. It looks to me that we will go to the market in some capacity to fill out the squad - possibly for next season, but most def for season 25,.
It looks like it could then be the window of opportunity for the club with a balanced team of experience and young guys coming into their own.

Of course the conundrum then is that our 1/2 replacement for SJ is well and truely identified.

This all depends on whether Webster sees Bunty as a FGer or even injury cover for FG. From memory he is on a very small contract, but if he is not in Websters plans moving forward then I would imagine his spot would be preferred for a young player.

My gut feeling is that Bunty goes to Super League at the end of 2024 to make way for the juniors after only a handful of NRL games. That is if Webster prefers him over Ale/Sifakula etc. I'd also guess that there will be an acquisition in the off season to muddy the waters further.

Bunty is on the books until the end of 2025 and I agree super league is a possibility, but also gould was over here prior to the knights game. Probably for commentary, but also bulldogs were chasing Twal who looks like he’s might go to manly. That says to me that they’re in the market for a solid but not groundbreaking prop. I wonder if they could take over his contract?

Didn’t they try offload Bunty but he didn’t want to go?
If that was true he would’ve had to take whatever he could get.
Think he's signed 2 deals since then. If I recall correctly, at the end of 2020 Nathan Brown gave Bunty & Paasi the chance to talk to other clubs. Unsurprisingly, Paasi got scooped up quick. Bunty, still rehabbing an ACL, worked hard & earned another 2 years then they tacked on another 2 last January.

I like all the players pencilled in for our 1-5 next year. What I don’t like is how collectively slow the group is.

Fastest is maybe DWZ and he ain’t fast. So when I say I really really want added speed it’s not targeting at any one individual in the 1-5, but dam we are slow.
Someone with real pace in the back five would add a dynamic we don’t have and give the opponent even more to think about.
