OK, so what type of Warrior fan are you all ? Fair to say we’re hardcore right now?

I’d say once the season is over I’ll drop back to medium and come here a handful times a week, to check up on the latest goss and arguments…

I have the Warriors tshirt, one jersey, a jacket and bucket hat. Thinking I’ll get more merchandise now that I can wear it around without getting hassled 😂

Probably a hoodie.

I have a hoodie and 2 jerseys , a towel and a beer cooler lol

I'd say I'm hard-core in the fact I spend a lot of my free time here and reading articles and opinions and watching games.
Never played RL so understanding it all was my first main driver being an addict , started using around 2017...

You don't have to have played league to be an expert on the topic. Most Cosmologists and Astrophysicists have never been in space.

I played, all it taught me was how important your tackling is, and how easy it is to turn over the ball in the contact. There were other bits and pieces I learned at center reading edge plays, but none of it gives you an overview of a game, in fact sometimes playing can make you myopic and unable to see the bigger picture.

So for anyone here who gets accused of never having played it, like that means anything in terms of the value of your opinion - ignore it.

I guess the thing you mainly learn as a league player is that it is a defensive game, and that if you can't tackle, you are gonna get a hiding from someone good....a really really bad hiding. There is just no papering over the cracks of defence against a top team.

In Union you can kick it lots, or take the play to the ground a lot, which can protect the weaker tacklers, in league every man is exposed, all of the time.

I've been supporting them since I was a kid so started on the bandwagon in game 1 in 95. Have only been to a handful of Warriors games in total in a few parts of NZ and one on the Gold Coast, but have probably only missed a maximum of 10-12 games in total watching on TV since their inception. I first started watching league in 91 when I was very young and my earliest memory is the hype of the Panthers winning the GF. I think back then we only got a couple of games in the weekend and it I'm pretty sure it was branded as "Aussie League on 2"? Before the Warriors I was so much into League that my first piece of merchandise was a Rabbitohs hoodie, then a North Sydney bears jersey and a Sea Eagles and Els t-shirt. I've owned all sorts of Warriors merchandise over the years but only forked out for an official jersey once.

I have four kids, far to expensive to buy them all their own Jerseys. So when the 9's came along I dressed them in my smallest Jumpers (Lucky I was lean once and fit lol and they were teenagers).

The only cool thing about the silly numbers of Jerseys in the Wayne Scurrah era, is that my kids could wear all the colours of the Warriors.

The last Jumper I pulled out for my first born he looked at and said "how come I get the stink old jersey, it is half faded?"

I explained what that old Jersey meant....to which one of my younger kids says "How come the Golden Child gets the 95 home Jersey?"

To which I said...hey yours is signed by some of the greatest players to ever play the game. Fortunately the other two kids couldn't give a stuff what their Jerseys meant....they were too busy negotiating their hotdoag allocation and when can we get the fook outta here escape plan.

All up I have probably fifteen Jerseys but they include NZ Maori, Kiwis, and I have two from Sydney Amateur clubs`` I played for.

I only wear one Jersey on game day, it is the only unique Warriors Jersey I have, it is a 2014 Under 20s Holden cup Grand final team Jersey that a Warriors coaching staff member gave to my cousin who missed out on making that side through injury, the cousin was a Maori Simon Mannering, an absolute tackling monster in the Junior Auckland comp.

Sadly he never made it back to League from that injury, and that is life. But he gave me that Jersey for showing up at all his games.

I'm far too obsessed, my passion for this team has almost financially and emotional bankrupt me on several occasions.
Landed in Aus in 94, spent a few months of that year watching the game as a neutral observer getting my head around the game before latching myself onto The Warriors like an aggressive tumor. Financially ruining myself again this weekend to fly in, life is far too short to not be a part of this amazing journey.

Grew up in a rugby family, but my brother and I as kids took a liking to league back when it was on Sky 1 (my fav channel iykyk)
Between 2003 and 2007 there were a few Kiwi's games and Warriors trials at North Harbour Stadium which we always went to.
But it wasn't until the 2007 that we went for our first game at Mt Smart. Probably because i was finally at an age that my Mum would let me take my younger brother across the City from the North Shore. We didnt have a car so we would take 2 buses (back before we had a Busway) to the City and get a bus that the club put on from SkyCity out to the game. Then back again. Was about a 8 hour trip back and forth.
Became obsessed after that. Would always go for the 20s games. Became as big a fan of the 20s players as the top team.
Definitely one of the "affects my Monday" kind of fans, as my wife will attest to.
Unfortunately (for me) my brother moved out of Auckland, so he only gets up for 2 or 3 games a season. But we were lucky to do Hamilton and Wellington this year and we've also managed to get to Whangarei, New Plymouth, Taupo and Rotorua for pre-season games etc. Never made it to Aus to watch one though, so we are lining up going to Sydney in a fortnight.

Good on you bro.

I notice a lot of Aus based supporters are quite critical of the team at times (I am talking about real supporters, and I am not judging them for it).

Understandable really, our Aus based Whanau cop twice the stress of being behind enemy lines when this team sucks.

I agree with your life philosophy. Live in the moments, follow your passion, other people buy cars and crap, why can't a man/woman buy memories instead?

The late 80s early 90s raiders was my team. I thought I'd never support another team ever lol. I loved Manly as well for the amount of Kiwis they had in their teams around the same time.

Before that my uncle was sending my dad Beta tapes of the first ever origjn games. Then all the winfeild cup games before they were televised here.
I collected so much Rugby League magazine's over the year's i had a room jammed packed with them lol.
I played most of my junior years for Elerslie Eagles & the Glen Innes Falcons. Til i broke my shoulder. Never got it fixed. Back in those days, My dad said put a band aide on it 🙄🤣

When it was announced that New Zealand would have a team in the NRL i cried! Lol. The grand final when they paraded the new teams flags entering the comp the following year. Goose bumps. Tears. Excitement.
I went to the first ever game. I had spent several of my pay packets burying warrior gear.
Lived in the waikato. Made the trip to Auckland to buy jerseys.

The pre match entertainment felt like we were going to war! Then they ran out!! Fuck me. We have a fucking team in the NRL!!

I went broke buying every warriors merch i could. Few years later moved to Penrose. Without a job. Paid my bond, 4 weeks in advance. Then printed 100 copies of my CV. And walked around Penrose looking for Mahi(A job). I did this to be closer to my team 🤣 Family in tow!
They thought i was mad.

One of the places i dropped my cv at was impressed that i had walked around doing this.
Called me back and said, come back for a chat. I got the job. Right at the back of Mt Smart stadium!

I'm living my dream! Secured my membership. Season tickets every year. Never missed a game. Would bump into warriors staff, Players all the time.
Vividly remember bumping into Webby at a penrose petrol station and having a good yarn with him. Told me he loved the city & the club. I thought, Good on ya! Whoever you are 🤣

Over time, I would get raped & pillaged of my beloved Warrior gear. Family, Friends. All new bandwagon supporters. The fact they were interested in our team, Made it easy for me to hand over. Haere mai new fans!

Now i only have the original 1995 Jersey, A scarf , Bag & a cap. Plus 3 huge flags That's it. Plus all my season membership card thing lol. & lanyards.

Every game i wear my gear & set up our lounge with my flags and posters. Not allowed to keep them up all the time 🤣 here in Oz.

My oldest daughter and i are avid fans. I'm glad i have her to ride the warrior roller coaster with me.

I go on every club fan forum before & especially after(If we win) to see what they have to say about us.
I watch every league show , Listen to every podcast, Every radio show that is available to get the latest gossip, rumour, Possible signings. Just general info about the warriors.

End of season is When I have learned to keep myself busy. I will buy a book to write down every players Individual stats for that season. Even Age, Height, Weight, What clubs they come from. Their nationality. Who they are eligible to play for. Junior clubs they played at. I replay youtube video's of the seasons games from round 1 to wherever we place. And will jot down the "eye test" for each player. What impressed me , Or didn't. Give it my personal ratiing and compare it to the NRL's stats and ratings.

I am hardcore. Well, Obsessed lol. But, I am happy. As long as i am happy my wife is too. And vice versa.

Excuse the novel. It's hard to keep it brief. When i don't want to miss out on anything important to me.

The only thing i wish i could of done. Was travel to Oz for those times we made finals. Financially, I couldn't.
Otherwise, I love this journey. Love this club, And our mighty fanbase.

First game in 95 was what got me into sports in general. No one in my family was into sports at all but it branched me out to numerous sports since.
Merch wise could never convince anyone to buy me a jersey when I was younger but first jersey I brought when I could pay for it myself was the 2002 Jersey and have mostly picked up the home and a couple of always since, never got into the heritage wil etc jerseys as I felt they diluted the brand- particularly when they started coming out in every colour of the rainbow.
Ironically have never been in a position to see a game at mt Smart but have seen the team play a few times in Wellington and every Aus ground except Townsville.
As to how obsessed? I’ve managed to find a pub showing the game in London, Edinburgh,Dubai, Singapore, Tokyo, Seoul, Hong Kong and Honolulu for example while on holiday so I’ll take that as committed

the type who gets a tear in his eye at this shit.

sydney born, played at renown as a kid and harry matts at dragons as a teen.
followed broncos as far back as i can remember until of course 1995.

parents split when i was 3, mum and sister moved to auckland, i stayed in sydney with my father.

NZ always felt like a better place to me as a kid. only ever being here on holidays i guess, rose tinted.
i guess that’s why i made warriors my team.

moved here in 1998. at first found it so slow, so quiet, so cold and saw the kind of poverty i’d never seen before.

grew to love it.

I thought I was a hardcore fan until I read this and realised I am a mere bandwagoner compared to you!

Epic level of passion you have there mate

As a kid pre 95 I followed the Raiders. When the Warriors started I switched to them but at that time I followed all sports and was to busy being young to get to much into league.

It was when Steve Price came along and I used to listen to him on radio sport that my love of the game built. The professionalism and how the sport builds up players is light years ahead of other sports in NZ.

So I grew into a fairly hardcore fan since the mid 2000’s. I was a contractor travelling around Auckland and the Warriors was my go to on every site…

About 2015 life was pretty full on and I needed an outlet to relieve life’s stresses. The Warriors became my low stress mental health passion that I immersed myself in to hardcore level.

So I haven’t played the sport but am a genuine fan drawn to the game by the product, marketing, players, camaraderie and ‘the Warriors experience’.

Not quite the super fan of others and I really respect some of the posters on here with league in their blood but I still in consider myself a hardcore fan and fully on the Warriors roller coaster!

It has grown to be pretty all consuming. I now prefer to escape into Warriors mode when I probably should be living a more balanced life 🤣
