Lot of bloody couch coaches on this forum. Yes its not Staggs or Mulitalo but did you honestly think we’d be getting one of those for 25’?

If you did Ive got some magic beans i could sell to ya that will make you jump higher, run faster and make your hair grow back.

Clubs in a vice at the moment due to unfortunate injuries. It is what it is. Des managed to get some decent performance out of Harper a few years back…no reason Webby cant do that same if Harper is called upon. Remember the reaction to when we signed Montoya?! That turned out better than we all thought.

    Welcome to the whanau Morgan!

As a fan, it's hard not to feel like this is a poor signing. The players available to us seem to fall into one of three categories: unwanted, desperate, or aging. But when I take a step back and look at it from a business perspective, it makes a lot of sense. It's a cheap, experienced addition on a one year deal, its low risk, it doesn’t block the development of younger players. Plus, it provides emergency cover when we’re just days away from our first game. Realistically, what else were we expecting with such little time left before the season starts? Let’s support this lad and hope that, in time we can look back on this as one of those great redemption stories.

Am I the only person not sold on metcalf as 7. Everyone seems to think he is the obvious choice for 7 when tmm is a better playmaker, has a superior short kicking game and a better defender, TMM and cht were awesome last year. The goal kicking seems to have really tainted people's view on what was a really good halves pairing. Mets could be the guy that everyone thinks but I'm just not so convinced...yet

I like TMM but I am trying to be positive and optimistic about the change to Metcalf.

Seeing Metcalf kick forty twenties was a good enough start for mine. I do not expect forty twenties regularly, what it signals is that he has been working on his long game with the boot a lot in the off season, which is enough.

TMM should have done the same with his career, worked hard on long kicking. He hasn't so, it is Lukes shot, fair and square, there is no future for a Warriors halfback that is not at least trying to develop a long kicking game.

I agree with everything you said about TMM last year, but he left the door open so....

Overall I am very happy with the team, having said that I would be happy with whomever they named because its time to go to war.

Big clear signals that the development year is on, Leka and Dimitric on the bench, Luke Metcalf at half back.... well well well, Webby is pulling the trigger, all we need now is for those boys to play safe and solid....like Laban does, make sure they are not a risk to select week in week out. Ball security and tackling, simple as, and after that they can run as hard as they like, hit hard, step, etc etc, but nail those fundamentals. Give the coaches no excuses for leaving them out.

Well, good luck boys. I was wondering if AW had the ability to be more innovative but unfortunately Mr Conservative's big move is RTS to play a 'new' position on the wing. If they run out 1-17 I don't think this team has enough points in them. I'm picking we start with intensity that doesn't deliver much, with a similar playing style to last season, and then we go missing a bit and by the end resort to individuals trying to pull something out themselves. Saving grace might just be that we are playing the Raiders. If it ends up with Pompey dropping out with CNK shifting to centre and TMM to fullback to give us a legitimate heads up play maker in the team then that changes things a bit. And if Ford drops out for Healey, then better again. Either way I'll be supporting whoever runs out but I'm nowhere near optimistic about our chances currently.
I think Ali and RTS are going to be a revelation in the back line and the young guns in the back row will give us what we were missing last year.

Ha - I called this 2 weeks ago. The only logical guy we could sign for cheap and on a short deal who has decent NRL experience.

TBH for a min wage fill in player who might play 3-10 games at best, he'll do the job. People need to remember this is a short term role. After seeing Kali and Pasikala in the trials, they are clearly a year or 2 away and super young.

We needed to get someone in. We are injury hit with Berry and DWZ and the season hasn't even started yet. Then we add niggles over a few others.

I know his name doesn't create headlines. At this stage of the season that is going to be tough.

I don't want to rag on a signing. He has an opportunity to impress if he wants to turn around his career.

Hopefully Tuaupiki works out on the weekend and ends up a stable replacement for DWZ and the others named this weekend get a good run without injury.

The solution to the Warriors outside backs issue is obvious.

CNK and Roger to play wing.

That would alleviate the loss of DWZ by having two great Wingers that can defend, can return the ball from the back of the field and can tackle.

This also allows for the use of Taine at the back, meaning we have gone from a shakey backline to a very strong backline featuring the very best of all our talent.

That backline (one move, CNK right wing) would match any in the NRL for workrate, quality and ball handling skill, yes wingers that pass are deadly and under used at the Warriors, having a wing draw and pass to a center back on the inside is something the Warriors have been terrible at. Having two wingers that can draw and pass back on the inside would make our edges really dangerous.

I know Roger and CNK are not lightening fast, but neither are they slow, and both have a lot of experience at chiming in as fullbacks in set plays.

No need to pay overs chasing the "Ronaldos" no need to reinvent the wheel and make it complicated with Union players.

Simply move CNK to the wing, I would challenge anyone to explain how a Warriors backline that has RTS, CNK, and TT in it is not our strongest configuration out wide.

But most of all, having the experience and expertise of Roger and CNK outside of our centers means the club could risk playing two young Centers in leiataua and Ieremia who would then have the benefit of direction from CNK and RTS while they bed in.

Put CNK on the wing and in doing so solve multiple problems and open new doors for the Center positions and fullback.

Our whole territory model relies on the back three returning the ball hard, and our middle game relies on fast props and middles rolling off Egan quick service.

CNK and RTS would arguably be an upgrade on Montoya and DWZ in that regard.

Phil Gould when reviewing the Warriors did mention that the club has been calling out all the clubs asking for an outside back. Either no club wants to let go off players the warriors want/players dont want to leave.
I wonder about Deine Mariner at the Broncos. He was a starter last season. Now it looks like Shibasaki is starting ahead of him. Not only that, Shibasaki has had his contract upgraded. That makes no sense as Deine is twice the player. I wonder if they're willing to let us take him so they can re-sign Cobbo. Just a theory I have...but if it's right, he would be an awesome addition. Covers centre and wing and has speed to burn.
