Sounds to me like a move to open up NSW cup minutes for Rodney Vea and Harry Durbin.

My guess is those two have impressed in the offseason training. Also have Jason Salalilo and Tobias Crosby doing preseason, so there's plenty of young props trying to get NSW cup minutes.

I don't think Zyon becomes anything more than a bench prop in his prime. Super aggressive player which is always a plus. But he's not big by any means and doesn't have any footwork. He has only has speed and hard runs, those type of players don't really move the needle. On top of that, he's a liability defensively.

He's been underwhelming in NSW cup for a long time. He needed to start producing output at that level.

Always a weird one when people group him with Halasima and Demitric in terms of talent.

Surprised no one has posted that Zyon started the first trial last year, close lined a guy and got a 5 match suspension.

That wrecked his season last year IMO.

I thought I had heard attitude whispers. Certainly not a Katoa situation in my mind considering Katoa had at times cut up in first grade.

    All the best to him

JFH has average numbers too, if that's what you go by. So did JWH. But some things don't show up on stat sheets. The intensity and aggression of players like Zyon create opportunities in other parts of the field. They intimidate the opposition and you need guys like that in your pack, rather than just tackle bots. And at 21, he's only just getting started. He reminds me of TPJ but without the massive ego. The sky is the limit there I reckon and we'll probably buy him back $600k a year more expensive.
Both very poor examples, JWH was playing regular NRL at Zyons age and dominated at lower levels.
JFH also still puts up good numbers at the highest level?

Releasing a highly touted rookie who would have been taking up bugger all cap, when we have 2 available spots already makes no sense to me.

Unless he was shithouse or turned up unfit and uninterested, you'd keep him and let him plug away in Ball until he either got better, or you release him.

Even if we do have something exciting coming (and I'm really expecting us to), there's still no reason to release Zyon imo

Since people are willing to continue posting non WARRIORS RECRUITMENT/RETENTION related posts and ignore the warning at the top of this thread, reply bans are going to be handed out in this thread. Zero warnings. Getting tired of repeating same crap.

After watching an interview with Capewell this came up in my feed. He has a few good takes sprinkled in with a lot of weird ones.

I think Barnett is the most likely option unless he doesn't want it. I can see Webster potentially going with Fisher-Harris. Or Fisher-Harris taking over when this appointment retires or moves on.

His argument about kids wanting to play for the Warriors I think is a bit out there. My kids the last few years have been more drawn to DWZ, Johnson or some of the other players. The captain hasn't been a big concern.

He then goes on about an Aussie coach selecting an Aussie as captain and vice captain. If they are the right person to lead us to success I don't care about their nationality. This is a daft as the times the club has wanted to be a NZ only club and take it to the Aussies. Even with our development strategy there will be some areas we will likely need to recruit.

Serious question and probably shouldn't be in the recruitment thread, but is Cleary actually any good as a coach?

Has had arguably one of the best halves of all time in Nathan, along with a boom crop of juniors in Martin, Luai, Lenui, Crichton, Burton, and co who have all been international and Origin stars all come through at the same time.

I feel even I would have won a couple of premierships as coach if I inherited that team haha. I do think Cleary is a good coach, just with the 4 time Prems tag I think he's going to be spoken about as an all time goat coach, when I'm not sure he's THAT good
What he did with some pretty mid tier Warriors squads was enough to demonstrate he was a talent coach.

4 in a row easily cements he is in rarefied air of being on the goat coaches.

Criminally under appreciated. No one doubts bellamy tho he had slater + cronk + smith holding everything together for years.
He even got us to the final in all 3 comps right before being shafted. Not a big personality so doesnt get huge press, but yes he's right up there for mine.

Has bought the right players through at the right times. Has also moved on a number of players during that four years. Does help having a potential future immortal in Nathan in a key position for him. But 4 premierships is 4 premierships. He also took us to a grand final so he is.a hell of a coach!

Boyd and Metcalfe are my halves picks. TMM and CHT back ups.

I favour Boyd’s long and short kicking game, goal kicking, pass selection and defence for a half. His record suggests he plays with confidence at Mt. Smart and he’s behind a fairly formidable pack, yep I like it.

Metcalfe a classic running six (when not injured, recovering from injury or on his way to becoming injured…) who poses a running threat with real speed. He may also develop a kicking game yet and can pass. Is he a left foot kicker, or was that CHT only? Be nice if he differs from Boyd L & R for eg.

I’d have Clarke starting at Lock and super sub Walker coming on with Sifa/Vaimauga after 20mins and Healy at the 30min mark, Egan subbed back 15-20mins in the second.

Berry and DWZ on an edge with Ali and Rog on the other.

CNK at the back with TT 1st drop for any outside back injury and CNK to move up into Ctr/Wng if needed.

With a long season I think we’ll get to see them all at some stage, and hopefully more.

While we're on the topic of 13s, I'd be really keen to see Tom Ale start, even if it's for the first 20 or 30 minutes. Really solid defender, mobile, can bend the line and sneaky good hands too. With him, Barney and Fish starting, I'd feel pretty confident we'd hold our own in the middle 3rd against most teams. Walker and Clark on the bench along with Demetric provide a really dynamic interchange.

it is a bit of a make or break season for Ale, I hope he gets the minutes to really prove himself as a consistent 1st grader, he's too good for reserve grade.
