I think if we play smarter the missing speed factor volume gets turned down.
    Smarter means not one dimensional.

It’s always been said defence wins comps, and this year our D has been rubbish. Have we missed Rocco Berry more over the back half of the season than realised?

The Roger positional debate is a distraction. His assets are running the ball back and beating the first defender.
I think a season on the wing next season could bear fruit.

Would seem like Webbys preference is still to have CNK at FB next year or could just be some smoke snd mirrors to end the season
    Webby, don’t elaborate man.
You already put yourself into a corner this year with the FB chat.
No need to keep doubling down.

Boys a few things to note

    - last year's success was out the blue and sj had a dally m year after the entire fan base wanted him gone in first few rounds / pre season games

    - just as sj flicked a switch on and off for a season rts can do the same and is a noted work horse and effort man has every chance being one of the form centers or any position he gets put in also have some very good young center options that will have another pre season under the belt

    - contracts and signings can happen in an instant and out of the blue just because no good options are " available " dosent mean that cappy isn't working some magic behind the scenes we could land Hughes as soon as storms campaign is over for all we know whoever I very much doubt it

But moral of the story is it's not always as dire as it seems there's plenty of news to come yet !! And we could run out the same team next year and have a totally different result this shit is ever changing.

Cappy specifically stated that 29 of the 30 were locked in for 2025. Who that is is anyone's guess but we only have one spot left.

The club had to jump through hoops to even get one chartered plane for Vegas. NRL actually cancelled a Qauntas flight as they didn't believe we would even fill up one plane. Air NZ wanted desperately to charter another one but all their planes are booked for March and to take one out of service has dire consequences for the entire schedule down the line. Basically its impossible.

Recorded the whole thing except the opening line of Anthony Gellings intro poem.

    Intro: Anthony Gelling
    MC: Monty Betham
Panel: Cameron George, Andrew Webster and Andrew McFadden

I’ve just returned , it’s good of the club to put this on for the members:
Cameron George : went on about the off field success - big crowds. How can they make things better for fans experience?
Looking to put in another plane to Vegas, bar announcement in a couple of weeks - name of it.
He did get a little tense when somebody asked why they dropped Nic Brown from his MC role without notice .
    Cappy: Pathways looking good.
29 spots in the squad have been filled for 2025. Suggesting no room for anyone else
Expect some big signings coming up for WNRL.
Webster: IMO, not much to add that we don’t already know. One person asked about giving the young guys more chances as they were hungry and the class guys ( established first graders) came straight back in. Webby agreed that the likes of CNK, SJ weren’t as good when coming back from injury. He said he had no loyalty to players .
He gave Taine a rap / wrap saying that he practised well today and it was a shame that he couldn’t get on a roll on first grade , getting injured or CHT returning.
In summary, not much was revealed and I’m not sure if much will change for next year.

Truth is RTS is a poor centre. His defence is poor at centre and it hasn’t worked and I don’t think it will work. Back to full back, the problem with that is that he doesn’t pass and set up people as much as CNK we he injects himself from the back. The RTS experiment has really not worked and now we get lots of metres but reduced ball playing from the back. CNK in 2023 gave some crucial under pressure passes and was very good. That’s why Webby wanted him at 1. To be fair it would be better to let RTS go to Japanese rugby and we use the $750k to strengthen an area that is needed, like speed or a genuine strike centre or another spot.

"Truth is RTS is a poor centre. His defence is poor at centre and it hasn't worked and I don't think it will work"

Hell of a statement to make about a bloke that has returned to the game in a new position, of which he has played no more than 3/4 consecutive games at a time, with a revolving door of 2nd rowers, halves and wingers around him, in a season where so little has worked for the whole team.

A quick look at the team lists and games this year, by my rough count, RTS has started:
    • 13 at centre
    • 2 at fullback
    • 2 on the left wing
    • 1 on the right wing
And of his 13 games at centre (of which he has bounced between both the left and right side of the field):
    • Twice moved to fullback after 40ish minutes
    • Once moved to fullback after 8 minutes
    • Once leaving the filed injured/HIA after 40ish minutes
    • Leaving only 9 games where he has played the full 80 at centre (in blocks of only 3-4 games at a time)

I admit that I love the idea of RTS at centre - he's an elite player, and at his best could trouble defenses both with and without the ball. Is there enough to suggest he is our best centre option, or can become an elite centre? Or is his best position elsewhere? I don't know, but to write him off as a "poor centre", and the much quoted "failed experiment" after a handful of games on each side of the field, in a side that just has not delivered this year?? Seems overly harsh to me.

RTS has never been in the top echelon of fullbacks and to compare him to Teddy is pure make believe. In the modern game an ‘out & out’ fullback links into the backline to create an overlap - they’re a 3rd playmaker. RTS will never be that, & I’m certain that moving him to fullback would set our team backwards. I’m not suggesting CNK is the solution either - he had a brilliant 2023 & a good first half of 2024, however he’s now well down on that form. However I just can’t rationalise how RTS is still being discussed by anyone for fullback.

As for the talk on Ilias - what have those of you keen on chasing him seen to make you think he can succeed as an NRL number 7? I’ve seen very little so far, although he is young still.
He’s beaten out Tedesco to win overall dally m at fullback in the past? Not sure how you can say never has been in top echelon?

    It's a possibility...

But I just can't shake the thought that it will be hard for the coaches not to roll out the red carpet at 1 for him, especially after the disappointment of this year.

They are looking for an improvement and moving him to 1 statistically would achieve that.

Also think CNK to centre this week is an indication of that as well. If CNK was a stone cold lock for the 1 jersey then you either bring Kosi onto the wing and move Montoya to centre or you bring MGT into centre in my eyes.

Moving CNK to centre tells me they want to have a look at him there...

Social media blowing up about all of this. To top things off, Murray sin binned last night for a shoulder to the head of frizzell.

This isn’t a conspiracy against the warriors, to be clear.

This is incompetence of the referees. The ref boss is stuck between a rock & a hard place. He is obligated to defend his employees, as any employer should (eg your workplace defending you), however he’s also obligated to uphold the integrity of the sport itself.

This recent uproar isn’t going Make people want to become a referee, and without refs we have no sport. However on the other hand, these inconsistencies & lack of accountability is affecting the quality and integrity of the sport itself, which in turn is losing the patience of the fans. Without the fans, there is no nrl.

Fans spend money to attend the sport they love. They don’t expect perfection, nor will they get it. But what we do expect is consistency with rules. Within the space of three days, the rules of a sin bin has changed every night, down to the discretion of the referee. This is unacceptable. Webby nailed it. It’s about the safety of the players & players aren’t punished for on field offences, then player safety (which as an employer of the players), the NRL is not upholding their duty of care.

I went to the game on Friday, and sat with yet another sold out crowd of 24000 people. NZ is doing it extremely tough economically, yet we’re selling out stadiums, buying merch, & paying for sky subscriptions.

All we’re asking for, is consistency & accountability of the referees. We don’t expect favours. We don’t want to be felt sorry for. All we want, is a fairly adjudicated sport where both teams are given the same opportunity to win the match, where the best team wins the game regardless of referee decisions. This is currently not happening.

For a sport that is producing record breaking profit margins, is expanding globally & bringing in new teams to support this growing viewership, this sub par standard of refereeing is now a glaring issue of the sport. Rugby union has this one up on the NRL, I cannot remember the last referring howler in the super rugby or Bunnings rugby competition.

NRL seriously need to sort their own backyard out & make the necessary changes. The reality is the sport will continue to lose fans at this rate, making the sport unsustainable.

    rant over

Halfback: Boyd, Hastings, Ilias, pezet, sexton, walker
Think we could do a lot worse than bringing Volkman back too. Only out of the game for a season but has a good knowledge of our new cup players about to make the step up in the next season or two. Good boot and game manager. Could spend a season behind TMM to get back up to speed? Have to see how chocolatey his shoulder is now

Where are all the little bitches that stick up for the officials, blatant fucking cheating on display last night.

I get tired of saying it. There is no conspiracy, only incompetence.

Look at 24 hours early in the Manly game, gross incompetence.

The refs and bunker are utter trash for everyone. We think we get crook calls... I watch nearly every game of every season, officiating is cooked everywhere.

    It's an absolute joke.
