1) A fully fit and rested Kevin Locke
2) .............
3) Dane Neilson
4) Konrad Hurrell after a full off-season on defending at centre
5) Manu
6) Carlos
7) Sean
8) Rapira (until he gets injured)
9) Freind
10) Matalino
11) Martell
12) Mannering
13) Ikahihifo

14) TL
15) Packer
16) Liliman
17) Taylour

Carlos and Sean know each other's games backwards, you would know if a couple of weeks if it works or if its distastrous.

I feel for poor little Billy Toupo, but he aint a winger (but then again, neither is Slimey?)

1 Locke
2 Tupou / someone new
3 Tuimavavae (a strong runner who can actually set up his winger)
4 Hurrell
5 Nielsen (to help educate young Hurrell)
6 TL
7 Johnson
8 Matulino
9 Friend
10 Package
11 Martel
12 Ben Henry/Taylor (I don't want both in the team along with Mannering)
13 Simon Mannering

14 Ikahihifo (adds something other than tacklebotting)
15 Sam Rapira
16 Lillyman
17 Vatuvei / Lousi (whichever one is looking more ruthless)

1 Locke
2 someone new << speed, jumps high, catches ball, can adequately play centre and fullback ie. is not a second rower
3 Hurrell
4 Tuimavave
5 Nielsen
6 Johnson
7 Godinet
8 Sam Rapira
9 Friend
10 Matulino
11 Mateo < 80 minutes
12 Mannering
13 Lowrie

14 Ropati < Lock
15 Vatuvei < Second row
16 Lillyman
17 Packer

Potential is just that, potential. There is no substitute for experience.

Injury/form cover: TL, Steve Rapira, Taylor, Henry, Mara, Lousi, Lousi, Tupou, Fisiiahi, Omar << these guys can play Vulcans against big boppers and fight/earn a spot in first grade. There should be a minimum Vulcans probationary period before an Under 20's player plays top grade. Unless the player is the "next big thing" like a Taumalolo

Edited to accommodate for Todd Lowrie.

I'd have Henry over Taylor.

I don't know what it is about Taylor but I just don't rate him that much.

Why do you want the club that has bought a centre to then play him at wing?
I don't think he is the greatest attacking centre running around but his defensive pattern is pretty good....

I'm with you on Taylor fanrrior. Maybe he is trying too hard to fill somebody's shoes! Maybe he is flat-out exhausted!, but his apparent superhuman efforts are reaping very few rewards.

I think that every team needs a Taylor/Luck/Benry type player - our trouble is we have three of them (four when Mannering decides to join the club.)

I think it's because he doesn't offer anything we don't already have. His attitude on defence is great but his technique is poor imo. Whilst he generally might make a lot of tackles most of the time it is bordering on flop because the other bloke has already done the hard bit. If even that because as we saw against the Sharks they were just standing straight in tackles offloading when they felt like it.

For me Ben Henry and Sebastian Ikihihifo (spelling?) will be better prospects.

Fair question!

While Dane is currently playing as a centre, he is actually a centre/wing utility and is effective in both roles.

Basically, I want him beside Hurrell.

Nielsen is an experienced player who has played in the best-drilled team in the NRL, and the champion Queensland origin team. His experience would be invaluable for a young guy like Hurrell, helping him learn to defend and communicate properly and offering a quality finisher who won't do retarded stuff like over-running the ball or getting bundled into touch during every other run.

From the look of Tuimavavae, we need him in the NRL side. He's a tall, rangy, strong player with great ball skills and a decent level of aggression about him. He's not going to displace a Kiwi's half in T.L, so he gets the centre spot.

Fair enough.....i think Neilsen is a better defensive centre than attacking one....he will much needed experience to the edge....
As for Carlos i think he is viewed as more of a "long term" replacement at 5/8 with T/L being used there for a season or 2 until carlos finds his groove.

Totally agree... It seems silly to complain about defensive orientated players when it's our defense that's been so shit this season, but it annoys me how involved these guys are on attack. What's worse is our attacking structure is so shit and is so lacking in depth, these guys are normally standing still when they receive the ball.. then their choice is to a) run straight at the line and be met by 2-3 defenders, or shuffle it on to the next guy who's more or less standing still who will have the same 2 options.

Mannering, Benry, and Taylor are all going to be playing big minutes next year which is not an exciting prospect. Not that i have a problem with Simon - except for the fact that he is extremely ineffective on attack and gets the ball far too often... except for that. At least he can offload. Taylor i think actually has the ability to develop an attacking game and he's shown signs that he has some skill with ball in hand, but he (or the coaches) don't seem to be trying to develop it. Benry is at best adequate injury cover in my eyes.. as a club i think we should have much higher standards than this guy. If we don't have anyone better, then we need to look at signing someone.

Not so long ago the question was whether Michael Lucks place in the team coule be justified because he was a one-dimensional tacklebot. Now we have 3 guys in the team that don't do much except tackle.. I just worry that Bluey is more than happy with these guys because they train hard and have good attitudes etc. We need more than 1 backrower that is capable of sparking something in attack ffs.

Time for fish to make a move permanently to wing. Would then have an offseason training in that position, can trial there etc etc.

We would then have (if he goes well) a fast winger who can then back up full back if need be.

On ropati, just too many injuries and is just too much of a liability on defense.

Is a real nice guy and I think he would do well mentoring other players etc but I don't think he is up to the nrl level anymore.

Hope he proves me wrong though.

The Ropati at centre of 2007/2008, definitely. Old Jerome, I dont know. Hes looked so bad at centre in the last couple of years, hes looked like a better fullback. A couple of years ago everyone was calling for his head until he got moved to fullback and all was forgiven.
