I will start with...it's a new season.....and I am an optimistic Shaun Johnson supporter. Looking at Volkman's numbers and the fact that he is a kicking alternative... and Metcalf could be out for quite a while - I wonder if Webster will think of pairing Volkman and Shaun Johnson at some point, so we have 2 proper kicking options? Last play kicking is vital to winning footy and it was our main weakness from round 1. The knights made easy work applying pressure to Shaun Johnson as he was the only real choice of kicker. In saying that though - Cleary as the main option at the Panthers doesn't seem to be under as much pressure. I wonder if the momentum on the 5th tackle run and the play the ball speed impact time to get the kick away greatly or Shaun Johnson needs to stand another 2-3m further back?

This is great in theory, & may work in the future, but to date they've played 220 minutes alongside each other & Shaun Johnson has kicked it 39 times to Volkman's 8.
I agree that somehow we need to create more time for our kickers but see both of the blokes mentioned as right sided #7s and not very complimentary as a pair

Some interesting stats in there.

The heat map for where the play the balls or something similar would be good to have added to the game day broadcasts. I thought they used to have something similar may have been in Super League or analysis on the NRL site where they'd map out a specific set on where all of the play the balls occurred.

Wouldn't read into this too far, I think it is mostly just that since he was named on the team list, NRL.com will need a player profile made for him for the match centre page.

Was probably quickly thrown up by whoever manages the website after the team list came out, hence the lack of photo and being put under coach rather than 'forward'.

Not sure what the deal is with naming development or cup players that aren't on top 30 deals in the extended squad though, I am sure it has been explained a thousand times already, but I guess they would just have to sign him to a top 30 deal for the rest of the year if he did end up making the 18?

Thanks. The results are good. Players are improving and look happy. If they have decided to put Zyon in the top 30 I ain't gonna argue. Because I know that they have to be working hard to earn that privilege.

You can apply for dispensation to play development players, the Bulldogs have been doing it.

They could very well be upgraded soon (would love to see it), we do have two slots to fill after all and a prop and centre is exactly what we need to fill those spots in my opinion

Maiu’u and Leiataua added on Warriors site shows 30 players, I too would be happy to see that as our top 30 with a prop and centre that are impressing the coaches. With Sifakula added a while back, it might have been enough to show there’s a genuine chance to be added with some hard work. Maiu’u I’m sure would be full of confidence with the knights sniffing around.

Not only can you say it, but you'd also be correct.

Heading in the right direction. The will and resilience is building. We just need the talent to come through with that same will and resilience built in.

I was thinking the exact same thing last night. We have a top 6-12 roster currently, and will really struggle to match the class of the top 5 clubs. Roger Tuivasa-Sheck should give us another edge to our attack in 2024. We possibly are still short another class forward, but at full strength.. We probably are ok. The top sides always have 1 or 2 boom rookies coming through, who not only balance the cap, but give them an edge. We obviously don't have that this year, but possibly 2024-25 we might see a few of those guys come up.

It’s an interesting one, you’re probably right and common sense you are, I can’t help feeling there’s a long way to go and we will be there or there abouts.

We haven’t had a consistent stint with 15+ of our top 17 on the paddock so we really don’t know.

I think it just feels like that after playing three renowned teams and not winning - but easy to forget just how many (and who) we were missing for those and we still went close.

I think we might surprise a few this year.

And yes better again next year.

Thats not controversial at all. These last few losses show it clearly.

There's determination and a will to win (mostly due to the coaching influence)

But they're lacking the talent.

We just need a few more juniors to develop and a couple more gun signings and we should be there abouts within the next couple of seasons. We're not far off being a top 4 team.

I think we finish 7 or 8.
