General Xbox Or Ps3? What Would You Choose And Why?

ok, just been contacted by Santa and because all the boys in my house have been good so far this year, including me, he wants to know if we want an xbox or a ps3. which is better? any difference? or is it all down to personal opinion? the boys seem to like the xbox with the kinect sensor and movement games but i'm not so sure. is there some new versions coming out soon as there seem to be some sales happening on existing range.

I have a ps3.. so PS3 :D haha
Nah both have their merits..
I think the xbox has the better motion control (Kinect)
PS3 slightly better hardware.
But it's essentially a Ford vs Holden debate.. so similar it's not really going to matter which you pick.
My Opinion anyway.

ok, so one is far superior to the other then, can go the distance and finishes well on top while the other is like a ford? so which one is the holden and which is the one that makes up the numbers?

Note: this opinion is biased

I think it depends on what genre of games you like. I prefer playing gun games on 360 because you actually get to pull the trigger, same thing when you are sprinting as it makes you think the harder you pull it the faster you go. But with games like Tekken I would suggest PS3 because the stupid analog sticks don't get in the way of the buttons as much.

Kinect is awesome. Just get a camera and record enough of your kids jumping on the sport or punching the air and thats like 5 jobs worth of blackmail (give it to their friends, facebook etc). Best bit is they don't notice it until after you got the dirt.

The only problem I have with 360 is that you have to pay to play it online, but if that doesn't matter to you then I'd say Santa should get that. :)

PS3 hands down better in every way. Xbox has such a bad record of RROD.
PS3 you can upgrade the HDD size to what ever size you want, they are just laptop drives, sony encourges this.
Sony playstation network is free!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You can use your PS3 as a media server, it will become the hub of the lounge.

BLURAY!!! got a HD TV, then you can watch blurays on your ps3
3D BLURAY, have you got a 3d TV, well the ps3 can output two channels of 1080p so that you get the full 3D expieiance.

The PS3 is so clever you can now play a 2 player game which would normally be split screen with 3D glasses and each player will now see his screen only in full screen! amazing

PS3 has some amazing titles.

Kinect is ok, but is kinda boring, playstation invented it back on the PS2 with the eyetoy.

Put all your favourite photos, movies and music on your PS3, if you have Vita or PSP you can stream them to your device anywhere in the world.

PS3 controllers are bluetooth and far superior

Yeah, I agree with all Warriorholic has said, but most of that is going to count for squat if he's buying for his 5 and 7 yr old. Which leads me to my next question, how old are your kids Inruin?

I have both consoles. I was initially an Xbox 360 fan, though the things listed above have turned me onto the PS3. Probably the biggest 'pro' is the capability of the PS3 to play Bluray movies. There have been very well documented issues with RROD on Xbox's - this means 'Red Ring of Death'. Essentially the lights on your xbox start flashing red (instead of a healthy green) and you need to send it away to be fixed. This isn't an uncommon occurrence, though we've had 3 Xbox 360's over the years and haven't had an issue with this for a few years now. In short, I wouldn't let that issue alone prevent me from buying an Xbox 360.

As for games, majority of games will be available on both consoles.

If they like Kinect then go with the 360. The games you purchase thereafter will be available on both consoles, and if you're dont have an HD TV and aren't into Bluray/3D movies then the PS3 is unlikely to offer you a great deal that the Xbox can't.

I guess the other question is...and again depending on their age. If Kinect is the main attraction at this point, then a Wii will provide you with many many more motion type games, and there are certainly more Wii games geared towards the younger age group than PS3 and Xbox.

Oh if you're interested in playing yourself then definitely forget the Wii. I only suggested that if it was purely for your kids.

Bottom line is you'd be fine with either PS3 or Xbox, but given you're unlikely to use the PS3's extra features and kids like the Kinect, I'd go Xbox.

The Wii has really fun games like the tennis and boxing that can actually have your kids working up a sweat but as far as role play type games its a huge let down. Good thing is that I see the prices of both consoles, especially the Wii, coming down drastically this Xmas season so just get both. Make sure you have 2 TVs, abit of space for the Wii and be able to put abit more on the powerbill!!!

I'm a Sci Fi Fan.

Halo is the greatest Sci Fi plot in any game I've played.

For that reason Xbox wins out

The kids got new bikes, body boards and other assorted stuff from Santa. I had a rethink and decided thay can get outside and play while the weather is good. Easter bunny has got them xbox 250gb with kinect sensor and Kinect Adventures, Kinect Sports and Dance Central. Unfortunately Easter Bunny won't be able to fit chocolate and this into his easter basket? sack? whatever. So over winter when my little angels are stuck inside they can still jump around and get some exercise.

wifey prefers I use her crack....;)
