  • If you take a Hodges Agency player then you may or not hear instructions from Chris Hodges during the game. You must act on these instructions as a rule of the game. Do not be flustered if some people get lucky and you don’t. Randomness is part of the game.
  • The game will be a series of open auctions. One auction per round.
  • There will be 12 players in the game (plus Chris Hodges) and 12 rounds – each round someone will be round master. The Round master gets an extra $400,000 to spend in that round. Roundmasters 9 to 11 will be given $500 000 for having to wait that long and Roundmaster 12 will be given $600K for having to wait that long. You can't carry forward the roundmaster bonus to the next round. The order will be randomised and published in advance of the contest. Contestants must attempt to acquire players whose last names begin with the letter(s) for the round. Note names like Harris-Tavita start with an H. Source of truth for names spelling is Rugby League Project as there name is listed in big font on the top of the player's page.
  • When roundmasters pick letters they must pick from one of the following combinations. List of potential letter pairings. The round master would choose one of the options listed and that option can only be picked once.
    i) B
    ii) M
    iii) T
    iv) C
    v) F
    vi) H
    vii) S
    viii) G&E&A
    ix) L&K
    x) P&I
    xi) J & R
    xii) N & O & D & Y & U & V & W
You can pick the above in any order or sequence. e.g. i)B does not have to be picked first and could be picked last.
  • You will be given a War chest of $15Million to start with. When you have less than the minimum bid you may bid no more. You may not bid more than you have in your war chest.
  • As a rule you must make one bid each round at least. Your bid must be higher than someone else's bid or a new bid on a fresh eligible player. An exemption to this rule is that you may skip one round at your discretion and not bid. You also obviously do not have to bid once you have at least 17 players and have self declared that you are finished or have funds less than the minimum bid.
  • Auctions will start in the morning as soon as the round master gets up. You are recommended to get your bids in by 5.30pm at latest to be safe as the thread will lock at a random mystery time known only to Chris Hodges between 5.30pm and 6pm each day.
  • You are only allowed two bids on each individual player. This is a twist from past years and the winner of the game will the person who adapts to this the best,
  • The goal is to acquire the best team of 17 you can – you can have as many in your squad as you like. Feel free to develop your own strategy here.
  • The minimum bid on a player is $200,000. There is no black sheep rule. Bids must go up in increments of $10K
  • Possible penalties Chris Hodges may impose
    a) One of your hodges players has had a stoush with the owner or coach, insert random reason for trouble at the mill, unless you play a fine of $X you will forfeit the player as he wants to walk out on you.
    b) One of your hodges players has been spreading rumours to other teams saying your team is stink to play for – in the next bidding round you may only bid once per player instead of twice.
    c) Chris Hodges has messaged you to say that all your Hodges players will walk out on you unless in the next bidding round you make a bid on player x (from the 2025 pool of players)
    d) Chris Hodges says that all your Hodges players will walk out unless player X (a player somewhere low on your depth chart) is elevated to your top 17 and you have to then name them in your top 17.
    e) Anything Tajhay comes up with that is not too unreasonable.
  • Final Round Hodges Rule:
Hodges ultimatums only apply through Round 11. Round 12 is free of Hodges interventions and marks the official end of the game.
  • There will be voting at the end of the game to determine who has the best team. There will need to be a separate thread where each team manager keeps their team list and war chest up to date.
  • Chris Hodges will give his input at the end of each round and must be acted on by the close of bidding the next day.
  • Please keep your composure during the game even if you get a rough piece of luck or decision.
  • Breaking the rules equals an infraction. Three infractions equals disqualification. There is a green card that negates one infraction handed out for exemplary sportspersonship.
  • Some final advice on strategy. Those who have played these games before will be at an advantage. Try to use lessons learned from the past. This will be a game based on skill. Try to study the rules in advance of the game and come up with your own unique game plan as there are many legitimate paths to victory.
  • Wrighty is the moderator and Admin and a player. I will be on my honour code not to favour myself. I have played and moderated before and it was fine. My decisions are final and I can make new rules during the game and change the rules.
  • No PMs to anyone including me or Tajhay or other competitors. All communications including protests to stay in the thread.
  • No Colluding with other players.
  • No Trading Players
  • Meme Player rule: the following two players are meme players and available for a minimum bid of $10K when their letter comes up a) Tony Williams b) Sione Katoa. Neither will be part of the Hodges stable

These rules were baselined as of November 1. Change controls apply to any future changes prior to the game starting.

Hi Men and Ladies of the Forum,

Opening up sign ups for this year's forum game. It is called Payer Agent Game.

I have found over the years it is best to just share a slight overview up front and then once we close the sign ups go over the rules and give the game concept in detail.

Game Slight overview
Chris Hodges is a fictitious player agent who may be inspired by past and present colourful player agents. You will draft your team through a series of auctions and Chris may assert some level of control over players you draft that come from his agency: the Hodges Agency. In a coup d’état for this year's game our honourable Tajhay will reprise the role of Chris and play in the game. Wrighty will both play in the game and be the administrator.

Sign ups will be open to Midnight September 6 2025.

These games require intensive participation and will run from Dec 26 2025 to approx Jan 15ish 2026. Please only sign up if you can commit to being active every day.
There have been a core group of Wrighty Game participants over the years and would be great to see you back for this one. New Comers welcome of course.

Please be aware usually I have 60% of the game mapped out in advance and flesh out the final details with the group after sign ups are finalised. This year I only have 20-30% resolved so will have a number of questions to get input on.

Can hodges really be trusted…?
Subject: Cease and Desist – Defamatory Statements Regarding Hodges Agency

Dear @Defence ,

I am writing regarding a defamatory post recently published on nzwarriors.com which stated or implied that I “cannot be trusted” in my role as a licensed NRL player agent and director of Hodges Agency.

This statement is:
  1. False and defamatory – It directly attacks my professional integrity without any factual basis.
  2. Damaging – Such comments have the potential to erode trust with current and prospective NRL players, undermining years of professional reputation building.
  3. Actionable – Defamation is a serious matter under Australian law. I reserve all rights to pursue legal remedies, including damages and injunctive relief.

As a direct consequence of this behaviour, it should also be noted that individuals engaging in defamatory conduct against Hodges Agency may find it more difficult to secure representation or player signings through our agency. Professional relationships are built on trust, and undermining that trust has repercussions.

Accordingly, I demand that you:
  • Immediately remove the defamatory content from nzwarriors.com.
  • Provide written confirmation within 7 days that the material has been removed and that no further defamatory statements will be published.
  • Cease and desist from any further publication of false, misleading, or disparaging remarks regarding me or Hodges Agency.

Failure to comply will leave me with no choice but to escalate this matter formally through legal channels.

I strongly urge you to treat this matter with the seriousness it warrants.

Sincerely,
Chris Hodges
Director – Hodges Agency
