General with out webb we lose

yes, there was a few half breaks he wouldve normally finished off last nite, Ah Van was superb under the high ball etc, but we obviously miss Webbs support play

We lost against the Bulldogs with Webb, we also lost 8 games earlier in the year with him. Just because he was out with injury you can't say his absence was the sole reason we lost, Patrick Ah Van played very well as his replacement I feel.

Agreed. Following that logic, we also lost because Byrne and Lauaki weren't playing. :?

I'd be more inclined to say that the fact that those two werent playing (plus Toopi) was the reason we didnt lose by 40.

Like it or not, the Warriors have to get used to being without Webb.

I thought Ah Van did a damn fine job with such short notice as a replacement for Webb.
The kid is a natural in that position and I hope he gets more opportunities.

As for McKinnon's game, the first word that comes to mind is *yawn*. I really thought he would have put a bit more effort in to show his new employers what he is capable of. If I recall he made about 1 decent break/run. On that performance Webb leaves him for dead. But then again. a single game isn't enough to judge a player on.

How many tackles did McKinnon miss? How many times did the Warriors break the Eels' defensive line? McKinnon is a terrific defender and great organiser of the line.
Webb is not as good at organising D and is a poor defender.
How many times have players broken the Warriors line and Webb has thrown out an arm or made a half attempt at tackling a player close to the line?
We missed him in a big way in attack but that was because we tried to use Ah Van two passes wide as a second-man attacking play-maker like the way we use Webb.
They need to get away from that style of attack once Webb goes. once that happens we will all realise that maybe we have held Webb up on a pedestal to some extent.
There is a reason no other clubs were interested in him in the NRL. He is not in the top 10 fullbacks in the game.
The following are ahead of him: (in no order)
1. Karmichael Hunt
2. Luke Patten
3. Brett Stewart
4. Greg Inglis
5. Billy Slater
6. Matt Bowen
7. Wade McKinnon
8. Rhys Wesser
9. Ben Hornby
10. Anthony Minichiello
11. Brett Hodgson

He may be a top bloke and a good guy to have around the club but let's not get carried away with how good he is.

danco you sound like the Warriors are a 1 man team!!..that they are not!!

Each to their own I guess.
But I was expecting more from a guy that has so much good press (even Cleary stated that he thought McKinnon was second only to Inglis this year). I'm sure his 'A' game consists of much more than what was on display last night - at least I'd hope so.

Whoever created that imaginary list obviously hasn't seen much of Webb this year either. Stats are a useful tool in monitoring a player's performance, but they don't always tell the whole story.
As for Webb being a poor defender... well, I've certainly seen him prevent more than a few tries from being scored against the Warriors this year, and his positional play has been excellent for the most part.

Blinky has been playing wing for the lst few weeks ...he has to get back into the habit of running lines to support the offloads. I really couldnt fault his play.
Webb is similar to Matt Bowen in play. And in my opinon not big enough for a fullback. And gets caught in the line too often too late in the tackle count.

As GTD said this is not a one man team (ok maybe in the past they might havve been..well sort of). I, personally wouldn't judge McKinnon on just that game alone. The Eels forwards get rather selfish as do some of the backs (well with guys like Tahu, Grothe and Hayne then that's how it will be). If you want to judge how he fairs then I supposed you should go all the way back to the start of the year and run through all Parra games and see. I don't think that one game was enough to pass much more then for me to say; like any good fullback you stay in support (which he was for the msot mind). Webby was missed in some areas of the game I noticed but you don't win on the back of missing certain players. He would have been helpful in some areas but I don't want to dsicount what Ah Van did last night either. Good stuff from him.

Yes we are

We lost because there was no Hohaia. Watch him carve it up for waicoa bay tonight.

go the doggies how many of the eels trys might not have got past webb? what about his support play maybe we might have got another try. ah van played ok but he is still a rookie and was out of possion/
we are not a one man team but we didnt go to win saturday night. and we should have won.

Ah Van did an awesome job as stand in for Webb - good under the high ball, ran hard at the line (without excessive "crabbing") and looked confident. The Eels targeted him with quite a few kicks and he responded damn well. Him and Cooper made quite a nice team backing each other up - you could have been mistaken for thinking they had played together a lot!

The Warriors forwards dominated. 60+% territory suggests we played the game at the right end of the field and that always makes it hard for opposition fullbacks to get involved which is why McKinnon may not have had the strongest game.

Rovelli had a mixed game, especially with his kicking. Some were good, some were bad but this early in his career that should be expected of him. He'll learn from the experience.

KTF - we have a guy in the squad that has done all that, but the powers that be want him at Hooker. Guys this is the business end of the season and Rovelli has been found out in the last 2 games. As Ridgey said we need to roll the dice, not just keep on throwing 4's. Get the experienced guys out there and if they only throw 2 6's in the game to win the tight ones then so be it. We have needed to attack the points table.
