General Why Hohaia

My favourite players over the years have been Ali, Jason Death, PJ and Stacey - not in any order. Hohaia came onboard as a sensation but didn't quite do it for me initially. Why I have chosen him as my fav player now is purely on the treatment he has received at the Club and the resilience he has shown to get back on the horse. Daniel discovered then denied him then had the foresight to groom him as halfback. Kemp came along and used him as a utility, then 5/8th then sacked after the first game last year. He came back and now this year history is repeating itself. If there was a subliminal message to the rest of the team in Hohaia being dropped, then give him the opportunity to perform behind the platform that the team provided this week - and at halfback After all a guy who has played for his Country had 70 odd games for the Warriors and scored nearly 150 points for the Club deserves something better.

Hopefully scoring 2 tries for the Stallions in Round 1 of the Bartercard will get him noticed again.

He's been chopped and changed like you say, and has always taken being dropped from the top side on the chin.

I hope he fights his way back into the starting line-up, but where would be the question.

Would love to see him at halfback where he belongs, time will tell.

Til then I hope he helps Waicoa Bay to the top..

I feel sorry for Lance too K.K.
Whether its attitude, lacking concentration at training, of whatever, there must be something behind it. And it could be a simple thing as game-plan.
I remember Lance playing a huge role in the lead-up games to our Grand Final. Back came Stacey and Lance was hung out to dry.
It is a shame, but one thing is for sure. He's a fighter and he will be back. But somehow I dont think it will be this weekend, unless he replaces Rovelli on the bench.

At various stages, Lance has had the world at his feet, but never made that step to being a truly consistent world beater. Similar to others like Clinton Toopi, Francis Meli in that regard.

When he first came into first grade, he was great at five eighth, but by season's end he'd lost a lot of form.

Then, from there on in his play at five eighth was largely average to below average. Hardly awe inspiring stuff to make him into the club's number one halfback when Jones was still going well and a lot of Hohaia's kicks were aimless, some ending up in row 42.

He got a chance at hooker, and took it. I was surprised he got dropped, but in hindsight the move to bring in George Gatis was a winner. Lance now has to go back to Bartercard and prove himself as a quality number 7, he'll get another chance, he's got to take it. Not just one or two good performances, but a series of performances that lives up to his ability.

I hope he packs up for ESL or even better, signs for an aussie team and puts 20 on us

you cant have a team of average players,if you dont peform you get dropped.if we dropped more average players and give a chance to the odd rookie or inform players who want to play their hearts out we will win more often.play bad down to the next level or go to the super league/

Why's that Warriorholic?

On one hand, if under performing player's are perservered with (such as Toopi last year) we ridicule the club's selection policy and acceptance of poor performance.

When an under performing player is dropped, we get on the bandwagon and feel immense sympathy for the player and hope he comes back to bite us in the ar$e.

We perceive this siege mentality that the club must have it out for them when they're dropped, but you have to consider the calibre of players currently not in first grade sides - Josh Hannay, Rod Jensen for instance. You can only select 17 players per week. First grade should be considered an honour and a priviledge, not a right.

I go another way with this, and hope the player finds his true goal, works on his weaknesses, builds his strengths and forces his way back into first grade contention, and then forces a consistent spot in first grade. I think Lance can become a good NRL halfback, but needs more work on his organisation, kicking game, and passing game, all key areas of playing in a crucial role such as halfback.

I just like his attitude with the Club and if he gets dropped for mediocre performance so be it. There were a number in that catergory from game 1 2006. I have never said the bloke walks on water - just give him an even break along with his peers who remained in the team despite glaring errors. I am pleased they bucked their ideas up - it was a good win. Go the Warriors.

To me this has a very similar ring to it as the Motu Tony issue.

Motu had a preference where he wanted to play but kept being chopped and changed and in the end largely used as a utility player.

I was dumbstruck when he slowly dissapeared all together from the teamsheat and then ended up at the Broncos. But then when he didnt even perform a role with them I couldnt help but wander if there was something more to it (ie attitude) that got him booted from the Warriors.

I cant help but think the same thing is happening here with Hohaia, could it be possible that after the first 2 losses he asked the coach to play him at halfback or not at all?

Hohia has shown up more than once in the news papers for the wrong reasons.
Which could suggest attitude problems. Anyoe remember when he left the feild when we were getting beat bad by the tigers?
I find that totally unacceptable from the veiw of a team mate.

I think if Hohia is released or moves to another club it will end up the same as the Bulldogs releasing Thurston.

Your right, Gatis has made stats in one game hohia hasn't made in two.
I think Hohia should never come back as a hooker, he just doesn't want to play there & has said so. So either give him the position[halfback] he wants [and deserves] or release him to a team who will let him play there. You can send him to bartercup again & again but he's heart is set on halfback so he's obviously never gonna play he's heart out for hooker.

Alot of players use the 9 or the 6 jersey to get to the halfback position. Its not worth giving him the number 7 jumper make him earn it, I think he could be alot better after a half season at hooker.

do you think lance could have scored a try like stacey did? I think not and that try is regarded by many as one of the best in a gf.

this sort of thing happens almost everytime a player is dropped. its either a) should have been dropped weeks ago or b) the club has it in for them.

the warriors got off to a bad start with 2 losses so changes were made. lance was a casualty of this move by the coach so be it. If lance is good enough he will be back in the team. the no 9 spot was obviously a position cleary felt was lacking in the first 2 games and brought gatis in for the game against the tigers. as to what happens in the future who knows what cleary will do. Lance though I am sure will get another chance unless the club actually does have something against him.

I think inm a way its Ivan making the big calls. If Lance is not performing or not going along with the game plan then he gets someone in who could impliment the game plan for that game. In this case it seems to be Lance.

Next it could be Lauaki is not required cos we need more structure. I dont think this is a case of Lance on the outta its more Clearey being prepared to make the tough calls no matter how many games you have played

Yeah it's difficult - we just don't know. We do know that in the past,
he has had attitude and discipline problems.

There is NOTHING to suggest that this may be the case this time.

When a player is dropped suddenly, early in the season, like Lance
has been, then suspicions are aroused.

I go back to the fact that he was given a contract at the very last moment and his Father was involved.

I may be completely wrong, but I just can't see him being around for much longer and I think those who are suggesting ESL are on the nail.

Cannot see an NRL club wanting him.

Cheers

EDIT PS I don't know why my formatting always goes like this.

i still cant believe nathan fien was chosen over lance hohaia as the warriors halfback. ever since hohaia put on a warriors jersey he was seen as stacey jones' understudy. the person to takeover when stacey leaves.

hohaia is too good of a player to be playing in bc (no disrepect to bc players). i would totally understand it if lance wanted out of his contract. it must be frustrating for him. i hope the warriors give him a chance a the no7 soon b4 its too late.

If Lance is acting like a prima dona, then good on Cleary for dropping him. This b/s attitude has been prevelant in the Warriors for the last 2-3 seasons it is good to see that Cleary wont stand for it.
