Is Rene Ranger available? He sure made metres in union but there is more to a top prop than making metres he has to be able to stop them as well.

I'd like to see someone like Thurston, even if it's only for one year. Although if, and that's a Font 56 Italic Bold if, he comes it'll be like Ali: For one season only and he's there to show professionalism and attitude rather than as a "Holy Crap! He'll Kick Ass In The Nrl!!" signing.

Seriously, if we sign anyone big to play big hours in the NRL it'll be a forward. I'd like Sam Moa. Because I think he'd be good for us and mostly because, as I've posted on some thread a while back, he plays for Tonga which is kinda lol-worthy. Like a guy called Sel Tick playing for Rangers...

Might be in the minority here while I would love to have Sam Moa here I wouldn't over do it for the right price but if he came too expensive or at the expense of someone like Vete or Lisone who I still think is our future bookends for the next decade or so I would not be breaking bank and cutting players to include him.

With the reduced interchange this year I think the big forward packs that have dominated the last decade or so is not gonna be such an factor anymore I think the guys that can play 80 mins every week are going to be more valued and thus smaller more mobile forward packs are gonna be the way of the future it might not be this year or next by def teams are going to find that playing smaller and faster is going to be the way to be successful.

Sam Moa is the obvious target with the previous rumours linking us with him. Now with us already having Matulino, Lillyman, Vete, Lisone, Gubb, Sao and potentially Gavet on our books someone will most likely need to move on.

Lisone and Vete are at the start of their careers, Sao and Gavet are new to the club and most likely not on high value contracts. I'd say we'd need to move on Lillyman to get Moa. Otherwise we are overloaded with front rowers or we need the NRL's plans for the increase in the squad sizes to come in.

Position wise the first place to look may well be another half as even if Robson goes well chances are he's one year and done seeing as he's away from his family for the year and his daughter. He is most likely after one more decent contract to help look after his family and fair enough.

Like t-wade23 t-wade23 mentioned with the interchange different players may be in demand from next year compared to what has been in favour the last few years. It might be best to sit back and wait a bit longer to see the effect of the new interchange laws.

I would have one eye on centre/wing and another eye on second row initially. In the modern game with the salary cap I don't think we can afford a top quality proven five eight to round out the spine. It's either going to be internal or a young up and comer. Personally I think we have enough young up and comers in Lolohea, CKN, Lino, Hingano to groom at least one of them to be an NRL quality half alongside a superstar spine.

Centre/Wing isn't because we lack options, it's more that none of those option have really stepped up yet. Until we see that happen we always need one eye on centre/wing.

Second row it's more of a succesion planning thing. We have 3 top quality second rowers, but after that we have RFM who has potential but you wouldn't want to be betting the farm on him at this stage, and Henry who you wouldn't want to bet the farm on him lasting the season. With Hoffman only really having this year and next his durability is going to be a question mark more and more as he goes on. Unless we plan on shifting guys like Sao/Lisone to lock or second row then we need to be having a close look at the second row stocks.

A few years ago I'd have been in favour of moving Lillyman on as a lot of the time he'd drop the ball on a simple hit up. Since then he has been one of our most consistent forwards. But if the club is keen on Moa chances are they aren't getting rid of Matulino. The others have less damage on their bodies and are taking less of the cap. If we can have Moa and Lillyman great but I was going for more on what the club is most likely going to do and a process of elimination

There have all ready been rumours of Lillyman wanting to return to the Cowboys or linking him with English clubs. So chances are he could be on the move in the next year or two.

Purely a guess here. But I'm figuring Lillyman is on really, really good money here.
I base this purely on him being in really strong form and a fan favourite at the time he last signed with us but also mainly because he re-signed with us at a time when the club was having massive off field dramas and would have been looking for any good publicity they could get at the time.
Im a big Lillyman fan so dont mind but if the club could move him on and get Moa with some extra cash spare as well I think they would go for it.

Well based on the recruitment for the upcoming season we've seem to switched out focus heavily to buying back the farm whether it's former locals (Sao, Gavet to a lesser extent if/when he signs) or big name Kiwis (Luke, RTS, targeted Foran, Taumalolo, Pritchard)

So based on that, would the following be likely targets and how would you guys feel about them? Not saying I'm for or against any of them, just looking for discussion/opinion to pass this off season away.

Sam Moa - Thought I'd throw him in there just because he's already being discussed and is an obvious target if rumours are to be believed
Elijah Taylor - Cleary gone, our depth at second row is solid but not brilliant, can we afford a marquee?
Iosia Soliola - Were rumoured to be after him before he signed with Raiders.
Matt Robinson - Thought he was really starting to kick on at Penrith before being squeezed out to an ordinary Titans side.
Abraham Papali - Has the physical gifts. has he learnt anything since leaving and would he even be willing to come back?
Nelson Asofa-Solomona - Not a former Warrior, but perhaps one who got away before we could get to him. Big guy, big future.

I'm in the mindset of Snake and playing an wait and see game to see how these new interchange rules affect how the game is played. Your gonna see guys like Bully,Segeyaro and Granville be able to take advantage of more tiring forwards esp around the ruck and on the back end of halves. The game is gonna get faster and defenses are going to tire more easily due to the new rules so as a club I would like to think we bring in guys that not only fit into the club culture but also fit within the system and style they are trying to play.

I would love for the club to go all in on playing an fast uptempo style of footy the team as it is currently constructed ala 05 Tigers,09 Eels and send out a more mobile and smaller forward pack. The Club has the type of Forwards to do it and has speedy and Skilful outside backs to do it so why not? They have tried everything else in the last 4 years and nothing has worked so many an change in tactics and strategy maybe the way to get this team to where it should and needs to be be interesting to see how the new recruits mesh with the current players come game time trials and the nines should be an indication on how they will play this season.

Out of the players you have mentioned however wouldn't mind getting Taylor back along with Sia Soiolia not an big fan of Robinson doesn't offer much in attack and Abraham not sure how he has gone over in Sydney but would like to see him crack first grade like you said has all the physical tools just another wait and see game with him as well.

Think about SJ and RTS dancing around tired forwards as well.:)

Blake Leary comes to mind for me.
Workhorse back rower, big tackle counts.
Bullocking running style, with an offload .
Be a good substitute for a Taylor style player.
Be affordable buy as well.
