Who Should The Warriors Sign For 2018?
Who1
This thread is for players you want to see signed by the club that dont have a rumour attached to them. Players like the ones above for example.

Unlike the Recruitment thread you can name anyone you wish from any code, country or planet.

We admins will start the ball rolling.

We need to sign a big bopper monster freak 85 minute prop!

How about Dean Whare? Rene Ranger? James Graham? Benji Marshall? Incredible Hulk?

Fire away guys...

Dean Whare
James Fisher Harris
Kieran Foran (3 Year Extension)
Tom Burgess
2x Depth Wingers

Cut:
Manu
Hoffman
Lillyman

I like your thoughts, except for Burgess. He is overrated for sure.

Surely there are some big props floating around the NZ domestic scene, or steal someone from Union.
Paying for Aussie props seems crazy when 10% of the people in the Mt Smart stands have the size to get the job done. We just need to get them fit.

I would target..

Aaron Woods, Kane Evans, Dylan Napa, Jack De Belin, Jacob Host, Dean Whare, Mitchell Barnett, NAS, Dale Finucane, Tohu Harris, Jordan McLean, Addin Fonua-Blake, Ryan James, Wade Graham, Jack Bird, Kerrod Holland, Jordan Kahu, Alex Glenn, & Josh Maguire..

I would release..

Allwood, Gubb, Hoffman, Lillyman, Sao.. the rest I would re-sign, on shorter contracts unless proven wrong 2017. Manu would be politely asked to leave, and thanked for his services to the club, he no longer demands anywhere near the sum of money he is contracted to with the Warriors.

Simply from observing and making educated guesses, I would assume Allwood (90k), Gubb, (50k), Hoffman, (500-650k), Lillyman (300k), Sao (150k), Manu (500k).. this would produce 1.6million.

I would select..
Dean Whare, NAS, Wade Graham, and one of Evans/Napa/Woods/Maguire.

Graham would demand plenty, Whare, NAS, Evans not so much. Woods/Maguire/Napa would require a larger sum.

Forwards. Good ones, who don't drop the ball, miss tackles and get dominated every 2nd week. Probably 2 new ones, 3 would be better.

Got no names, who knows what they can afford. Seems like less and less players come off contract, clubs will have so much in the salary cap compared to what they used to they can offer a pay rise to anyone worth keeping. Only past their prime blokes offering "leadership" seem to be available.

Backs are fine, apart from a specialist wing or centre.

That's some powerful wishful thinking.

Allow me to poke some holes though. (Sorry, I'm bored)

Gubb wouldn't make a difference if he's on 50k. I doubt we have anyone in our top 25 not getting the minimum so we would come up with nothing from him. The salary cap will go up and I suspect the minimum will go with it so straight away Allwood gets cancelled out with a player of minimum equal value having to replace him.

That leaves Hoffman, Lillyman, Manu, Sao For around 1.45 mil on your guestimate

With the salary cap going up so are player expectations. The rumours floating around about Napa are saying around 700k will be offered. NAS, Whare will probably all be between 400-500k and Graham again up around 700k.

That doesn't take into account that Matulino, Shaun Johnson, Thompson, Roache, Sipley, Hingano etc need to be upgraded, no chance that another team takes all of Manu's salary so we're taking dead cap money on that one - and I haven't even mentioned the elephant in the room which is we're not keeping Foran without upgrading him by 400-500k at least under whatever the new salary cap will be.

Long story short, if those players mentioned are the only ones we're releasing I reckon you can pick one top liner and another decent first grader/young fringe/bench player to replace them at most. Then you still need two guys on the minimum to replace the other two you didn't replace which immediately takes close to 200k out of what you can afford to spend.

I think the 2018 NRL signings are going to make this year a very interesting one off the field for the fans.

Man talk about a killjoy, and here I was about to list Israel Folau, Sam Kane and as an dark horse cheapie Steven Luatua.
Love will bring Folau, money and a new challenge for Kane and Luatua cos it won't be as much as he would earn overseas but it'd be more than he earns at the blues and it gets to stay at home.
But you've ruined it all by bringing logic and commonsense into the equation damn you damn you to hell ;)

I suspect the 2017 Warriors will be one of the strongest teams on paper we will field in the coming years. We have quite a number of high profile players coming off contract, and a number of younger players coming through who will demand a hefty upgrade on their contracts.

We have pretty much all our bigger name forwards (Matulino, Lillyman, Thompson, Hoffman, Gavet, Vete, Sao, Sipley), and halves/utilities(Shaun Johnson, Foran, Roache, Hingano(?), Lino(?)) offcontract.

And then we have the unhappy campers in Lolohea, Gubb etc.

Fail to make the top 8 this year and ill be glad to see the whole team gutted like we did after the Tainui disaster. It will be painful but much rather see a bunch of unknowns/youngsters giving it their all and losing 40-0 rather than a team of overrated, overpaid supposed team full of representative players losing by the same scoreline.

If we fail to make the eight this year the consequences could be quite serious. JD's halo would definitely be bent for one. However I have faith the team will make the eight.

The most important thing is to make us look like a club on the rise. Deep down players want to play for a good club, although their managers always want more money. If the can get into the top six this season, and look serious for 2018, they might save a lot of money in the salary cap.

If i was the club I would be targeting an outauside back, a ball-playing second row/prop with a good offload, an a jorneyman prop.

Players off contract after this season, I would be looking at would be Dean Whare, I've mentioned many times in other threads why I would sign him. David Fusitua can continue to develop his game on the wing and learn the art of defence from an experience head inside him. Waqa Blake from the panthers has gone on record about how Dean Whare has helped him improve his defense, he was outstanding for the panthers last season playing centre

For my ball playing second row I would target Nelson Asofa-Solomona, yes he plays prop for Melbourne but I would have him coming off the bench initially and playing on the edges. With his size he would be destructive on the edges. I would play him initially of the bench so he's not exposed defensively on the edges by playing longer minutes. However I think overtime and with the right coaching he could become a starter able to play long minutes. He is one player I would not disappointed in if the Warriors paid 'overs' in order to get him to the club.

My journeyman prop I would sign would be Ava Seumanufagai from the tigers. From Wellington would be cheap and can play decent minutes and is an error free footballer doesn't make mistakes and give away penalites reliable on defence. The reason I would sign him would be because, It allows the likes of Bunty Afoa and Toafofoa Sipley to continue to learn there trade in NSW cup and to be called up to play first grade only in case of injuries. Signing Ava Seumanufagai would also give Kearney the opportunity to play Matulino in the back row if he decided too.

I see the Raiders have signed Nathaniel Roache's younger brother Paul, Wonder if we were after him? Was selected for the NZ schoolboys union team(played for mt albert grammar) as a 2nd 5/8, anybody know if he's any good?

Would make a Awesome centre in league. Watched him play at regional sevens tournament and he was best player there. Fast , strong and a great defender. Someone needs to pass his name to warriors.
