General What do the Warriors need?

Earlier this year when Owen Glenn took a stake in the Warriors, he asked Bluey who he would choose if he could have any four players in the world. McClennan’s answer was that he already had the players to win the comp. Looks like Bluey was off the mark with that answer, as the Warriors have yet to show we deserve be in the top 8, let alone capable of winning the comp this season.

Do we have the players to win the comp? Do we lack experienced heads? Do we need a certain off contract player to really put us on course to go one better than last year? What exactly are we missing? We are losing a few players this year and replacing them with Leuluai and Dane Neilson. Is that going to make us stronger next year?

Looking at our second row options for next season, I'd say we need:
-a very experienced (150+ games), hardass second rower who can ball-play and not miss tackles.
-an experienced (50+ games) versatile winger who has good pace, a low error rate and can read attacking plays.

I do think Nielsen and Leuluai will help a hell of a lot though.

They both have representative experience.

Leuluai is only 26 but could definitely be referred to as a veteran, and he can play hooker or halfback. He will not be a huge step down from Maloney in the attacking stakes, but in defense he will be a MASSIVE improvement. Thomas is a rock, and can smash forwards.

Neilsen presumably can also play winger if necessary, is another great defender, and has played in a very professional team where they have high expectations of players. Hopefully his work ethic will rub off on others.

Just on leuluai, herr seems to have played his last game in ESL after being injured in the exiles match

we have a very young team atm so more experience is obvious

ill like to see a senior forward that is vocal and a strong work ethic coz atm mannering is great but doesnt have the voice that can pick up the boys when we are behind and feleti is a bit hit and miss at times.

i like the TL and Neilson pick ups so far both great players but i want us to pick up another specialist hooker or 6.. friend is our only decent hooker and when he is out we got nobody to really fill his spot ( dont say godinet coz hes not good enough yet) TL can play there if we can get a good 6. Nathan Fiens off contract this year i think i would mind seeing him back for 2-3 season

Probably not a bad thing for us. More rest time, and maybe he will head home and get into our system sooner.

We have a coach. A good one. How many games have we lost this season due to dumb individual errors? Coach can't do jack about players do things they should no better than to do to.

Coach pickes them to play so he does have some accountablity how many games have we won this season is all we care about when it comes to the coach..

Don't forget Alehana Mara as well.. i thought he was starting to show some class just before he got injured. Its just a bit freakish that both he and Friend are out injured at the moment!

Do we have the players to win the comp?
No. Not consistent enough individually or as a team.

Do we lack experienced heads?
When they're injured we do.

Do we need a certain off contract player to really put us on course to go one better than last year?
As said above by hitman, a good backrower capable of a tacklebreak.

What exactly are we missing?
Kava and mana. Just joking, love to use buzz words that people think they understand.

Leuluai no, Nielsen yes. They're not going to make up for the loss of Luck and Brown (and at the risk of starting a massive discussion that goes round in circles...Inu).

I could give some excellent examples to back up your argument Kaizen, but i'll leave that for another thread :D

Ah god, can Bluey please re-evaluate that statement now that Luck, Brown, Inu have gone? I'm also sure he didn't have Dane Nielsen in his top 4 players in the world.

Kava is a drink that tastes like what would happen if dirt and water didn't make mud.

mana is Maori for a sense of pride or honour, except its like super-pride or super-honour

What else is there to understand?

I disagree...Bluey is well out of his depth

Attack - is poor.heavily rely on Johnson magic or Hurrell steamrolling guys...no guys in motion or offloads and 2ndphase play etc, Mateo has lost his creativity
Defense - is an absolute joke. did a say a joke
Poor use of his bench
selections having been puzzling
The hole water park joke...then Bluey later claiming he may of over worked his players and they were tired
Bluey said judge him after round 6....well we are now 4 points out of the 8 and we have failed to cash in Origin time
Some of the players body language and how they just switch off for large periods is disturbing

Im not on a coach witch hunt...but there are some alarm bells ringing. Bluey had to build on what Cleary had built...instead i feel we are going backwards at some rate

We're 4th in points scored and Maloney is top of the point scoring leaderboard.

We're 4th in defence too...4th worst =/

Bluey should of started with the Vulcans or NYC first before being appointed NRL coach. Now we are stuck with a coach who has no answers. About this experience thing is BS. They're professionals now so lets treat them like it & expect results. I love winning & dont mind losing when trying but to give away leads like we have is pathetic to say the least. We are the 2011 grand finalists for f**k sake and should be playing a whole lot better then what we are and I blame the coach. Get results or go simple as that
