It can cost 2-5 bucks for an internet presence for a small business. A site with a few thousands unique visitors it can cost to about 20-50$. We have a healthy relationship with our hosts(note their link at the bottom of each and every page - that is our payment) and as such they have provided us our own server should we ever need the capacity, which in its current form is an overkill, but still good to know we have the capacity should we ever need it. Typically what we have right now would cost us around $50-150(hosting in nz is more expensive however it provides fastest connection for majority of our visitors this way) . Theres a few additional factors in play as well. For example this site serves well in excess of 50gb a month.

I believe vpscity has plans starting from as low as 14.95 a month which is fantastic value for nz based sites starting up. There are cheaper options such as godaddy etc, how i would heavily persuade anyone from ever going down that path.
