General Webcke likely to miss Warriors match

Broncos prop Shane Webcke withdrew from training in Brisbane yesterday suffering a back spasm and is in doubt for the game against the Warriors on Sunday.

The three-hour flight to Auckland would not be good for his condition, the Broncos medical staff have advised. A decision on his involvement or replacement will be made before the team flies today.

That's a bit of a blow for the Broncos, I don't think the Warriors will be too unhappy though...

Yeah, I read that too. They do tend to rely on Webcke and Petrol 70cents-a-litre, so this might enable us to get a step up on the opposition forward pack.

The Brisbane Broncos will be without veteran prop Shane Webcke and hooker Casey McGuire when they take on the New Zealand Warriors in their National Rugby League round 13 match in Auckland on Sunday.

Webcke has failed to recover after suffering from back spasms while McGuire has a chest injury.

Brad Thorn replaces Webcke in the starting line-up, while Ian Lacey will assume McGuire's responsibilities.

Brett Seymour and Greg Eastwood are the two new players who have been brought into the team of 17.

Wayne Bennett's men will be looking to pick up another two competition points against the Warriors, who have been somewhat of a bogey side for the Broncos in recent seasons.

Last year Brisbane lost both its matches against New Zealand.

The Broncos currently share top spot on the NRL ladder with the Melbourne Storm after winning six of their past seven matches, the only loss coming at the hands of Newcastle in round nine.

They will train at Auckland Grammar School tomorrow in preparation for the clash.

He's been pretty bad this year so far, hasn't been in the first grade side for a while and I don't think he's been injured ...

Maybe a case of one year too long?
