General We signed great players

LUCK- Solid buy, hard strong player.
ROVELLI- Skillful, can play either 6,7 or 9, we need a player like that
GATIS- Very solid player, loves to tackle, hits hard with his strength, and can break the line as he proved yesterday.

Warriors spent well, fair to say these players aren't superstars but they are what our team are looking for :D all deserve to be in the team against NewCastle next week.

All 3 played great footie last night, as did the team as a whole. Gatis seems to be just what the doctor ordered in lighting the team up and the whole team played at a much higher level than in the previous 2 games. Management obviously knew what they were doing when they signed these guy, as you say, Robster.

agree the 3 went well, especially gati and luck.

Rob, we got these guys from the specials bin.
we let go some " great" players and replaced them with these guys.

from how the 3 went yesterday ozbash I suggest they played great football which brings out how great the signings really are.

they are classed as journeymen rob.

geat journeymen ??? dunno.

we let go better players to sign them,, go figure.

They were great signings in the long run, even if a lot of people criticised our recruitment policy last season.

They're hardly Journeymen right now oldkiwi. Gattis has been unlucky not to play more footy because of injury, Luck cracked first grade but couldn't hold his spot bothe for Nth Qld and Rovelli made his debut this year.

We let go of Marsh because he wanted to go and he did his neck in, We had to replace Stace eventually so why not do it with some youth in Rovelli and Luck slots in for Monty who had a solid season last year but to be honest I've found him to be a bit like Crocker, effective but you were always scared he was going to blow up and give away a stupid penalty.

People talk about getting in new players because the current ones aren't performing. Well these three performed last night, it's the best we've got right now and to say let's replace them with great players is a little bit hasty IMO. We won't have any signing power for a wee while yet because of the whole cap debacle so let's get used to seeing these three on the park in the mighty black and sometimes silver with stripes.

George Gatis was fantastic. Crisp pass, knew when to run when the markers weren't there, gave Fien a lot of time and hit the forwards flat and quick giving them a good chance to roll over the advantage line.

It was much the same as he did for the Cowboys before being injured. I can't believe hardly anyone remembers his performance against us in 2001 at Ericsson, round 26, we needed to beat North Queensland who were the wooden spooners to ensure we missed Parramatta in the first finals match. We got dusted, Gatis got two tries and was making breaks left right and centre. He nailed our 2001 season right then and there. I was therefore very happy when he resurfaced at the Warriors.

Great players especially gatis & rovelli "GAME BREAKERS".
The only player we should have kept was Paleasina. The rest were past there used by date.

Considering Stacey was second in the player's player of the year award for the NRL, I somehow doubt he was past his use by date. Considering PJ's impact at Parramatta, I somehow doubt he was past his use by date. Considering Ali's impact with Leeds, ditto.

Our management made several incredulously bad calls in the past, we should be grateful for the 'John Carlaw type' buys we have this year - basic skilled players with sharp minds. Not always highly featured in the high earners lists,, but highly useful. Now we need to get a premier league side together, harness our younger talent and also purchase younger talent from the key growth clubs of the NRL - St George, Parramatta, Brisbane, North Queensland, Roosters. Likewise with Gatis/Luck/Rovelli, there are other players coming through the ranks good enough to play NRL. Combine the fact most of them would come cheap for an opportunity to be part of the top 25, you'd end up with 8-9 in the top 25 not being paid much but being chock full of ability, and then the rest of your squad you have more per player to pay to attract the marquee players.

That`s a great way to stay within the salary cap and still build a solid team, Iafeta. I`m with you 100% on that one.

There's no doubt they've al left the impressions in different ways. And I think it's nice that some ones other then your regulars can provide that step. If you get my drift

I'd prefer if we looked in our own backyard for these types of players, instead of looking overseas so much.

they are good buys indeed and the best we could get with what we had. some players indeed were let go at the end of last year but that is how footy works. there was no way especially after the salary cap debacle that we could have kept them all. these guys may not be superstars but they know how to play footy and that is all you can ask from a player to give their best.

in the ideal world the warriors would be 100% nz players but that world does not exsit. the gaps are filled with aussie players so that the warriors can compete in the best league competition in the world. and if these buys turn out to be the goods and the warriors win games because of them I don't anybody will really care where they come from just so long as the team performs like in 2001-2003.

I'd prefer to make comments about stardom/jounreymen, etc after a few more preformances.....and see what comes out in the wash.
In my mind the warriors seem to get better when they have an aussie at 9.....why is that the case???

Exactly
