Just reading the Sunday news you gotta ask was Stacey Jones really up? To me he is a legend, he makes the Warriors a better name. He was playing great football last year and suddenly Mick gives him the code of silence to think otherwise.

Lets face it , we wouldn't of been tri-nations champions with out the Little General winning the toughest comp in the world.

He had to go, he was average for the Warriors over the last 2-3 seasons, his kicking was predictable.

average compared to who? fien? rovelli?

stacey had lost faith in the club.wasnt happy and look at him now, he is a genius on the field.

'Hindsight is a wonderful thing' as the saying goes.
I don't doubt that Stacey misses playing for the Warriors - it's like a lot of things in life, when you are removed from something you have invested a lot of time in you tend to reflect and get a bit nostalgic.
But as it's been mentioned, he was not playing his best football for the club in the last few years, and maybe the environment caused this for the most part.
Perhaps if he were to return we would see a revitalised Stacey Jones, but I can't see it happening unless he's prepared to take a significant paycut unfortunately.

Nah. His time was up with us, he needed a change of scenery before he was going to perform at the right level. It's just the contrast between when he was here and now, where we have a bit of a vacuum in his abscence, that makes you and others want him back. But the right move was made.

I have always enjoyed Stacey tormeting the other NRL clubs through the years. It's was great fun lets no forget that. But to be honest if you look back on his performances since 2002-2003 it was getting too predictable. Sides were able to target him...and then what? (techincally it's almost the same situation right here right now). He will always be the soul of the Warriros and will remain the number 1 icon when it comes to the Warriors. But truth be told, it was just his time. A different country, a differnt lease of life makes people get better.

It was alwyas going to happen, the Warriors would lose Stacey at some point (be it retirement or leaveing) so we would have had to deal with it either way.

I just think there are too many stories in this whole saga (again) and perhaps whatever interview he did for the sunday star may have twisted everything around...again. Yes Mr. Mick blotched up a lot (that's for the over spending mate!) but in the end life goes on.

Stacey's always going to be the man in my book but we can't keep focuing on that. We can't keep digging back into the past and thinking all the 'what if's and that. We have to and should (you don't have to if you don't want to) focus on the future of the Warriors

His time was definitely up, although he is the greatest player this club has had he was getting on and has lost some of the talent he had in his earlier days.

Robster, which story from Stacey is true?

The one he flogged off in his book about wanting out in 2004, and then in 2005 - how the club wanted him to stay one more season with Price and Wiki and then take up an off field role within the club, or that he really wanted to stay?

Considering I paid $20-30 for his book, I'd hope thats where the truth lies. Pity the rest of the book really wasn't much chop...

Mate the only thing Stace misses about the Warriors are his mates and the Hauraki Gulf fishing.

Stacey is very much like Geoff Turvey was in his last year with Manley. Was too predictable and slowing down a little. Still a bloody good player but needed to go. There is no doubt that the move to ESL has revitalised his game and I can see huim playing maybe 2 more seasons at the most, Depending on his injuries, then he will move back to his home land and take up a job with the Warriors.

A note to all the old forum members.

Remember The Tipster was never wrong.

WATCH THIS SPACE. Believe and it will come true.

The Tipster is back !

Yeah, I was wondering about that too. I bought the book and had the side of the story that you said but now he is saying he wanted to stay and it was the club getting rid of him. He could at least have one side to his story and stick to it.

I always say there is two sides to every story. Honestly, who knows what this new one is about. We can chop and change it and read it however we like. Not much else.
