NRL finds Mimis concealed Warriors' payments to Price

August 19, 2006

LEADING player agent George Mimis has been found guilty of executing a playing contract for Steve Price that did not include all the Warriors captain's payments from the club.

Mimis was yesterday advised of the finding after a 5½-hour meeting of the NRL's Player Agent Accreditation Committee on Thursday night.

It is understood the contract Mimis negotiated for Price with the Warriors included a sign-on fee, an annual payment for co-hosting a weekly radio program, a car and management fees, as well as his salary. But the contract registered with the NRL for Price contains only player payments believed to total about $350,000 a season.

Earlier this year the Warriors were docked four competition points and fined $430,000 for breaching the salary cap by $860,000 over the past two seasons but the PAAC found that Mimis knew, or should have known, that Price's contract did not contain all of the terms that had been agreed upon between the Test prop and his club.

A further four allegations against Mimis were not proved and dismissed, including one relating to an invoice for $25,850 he sent to a company run by Perry Lopez, the brother-in-law of former Warriors chief executive Mick Watson, for brand marketing services.

The amount was Mimis's agents fee from Price that was included among a payment of $40,000 to Marketing Fever by the Warriors.

Mimis has been given seven days to make further submissions to the committee in relation to the question of penalty, which could range from no action to the cancellation of his accreditation.

Dodgy, dodgy stuff.

Will be interesting to see how hard they come down on him for this.

Wow, big news. Price could be without an agent very soon.

I hope this doesn't have any effect on the club itself - I'm not sure what they were supposed to have known.
