Anyone have any idea of how much space we might have in our cap? Weather we could make a late play at any of those centers? Mt.Welly?
Id imagine only the NRL, Jim Doyle, and a member or two or the Board would know the figure.
Same answer as above. What we can deduce though from comments that Jim Doyle has made and the recent bargain signings (Jeff Robson, Blake Asyhford, Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad) is that we have very little of it left for next season.

Just an assumption but I think we are done for 2016. Tony Iro would probably be working with Cappy on our 2017 recruitment and re-signings.

The following players are off contract though we know that Charlie Gubb has a club option for another season...

Off Contract 2016:

Ben Henry 2016
Charlie Gubb 2016
John Palavi 2016
Jonathan Wright 2016
Marata Nikore 2016
Mason Lino 2016
Raymond Faitala-Mariner 2016
Sione Lousi 2016

Wouldn't think the above names would free up a hell of a lot of cap space would they?

If we are after some decent signings for 2017 you would assume we would have to move on some of our contracted players(the Lillyman murmuring springs to mind),
or else lose a few depth players(such as the above names) per "decent" signing

Love to know that myself. He re-signed with us in 2013 for 3 years taking him to the end of 2016 so theres a possibility that he could still be getting comped by us but I do remember Manly shopping him around this season. Also most releases only have the former club paying for the first year. It was during Dean Bell's era though so expect the worst...

Ben Henry can't keep being re-signed because he's a good guy, do or die for him. Does he have enough talent and skill to make it as a Second Rower? I'm not sure atm.

I'm pretty sure cap goes up, but surely any player with a half decent manager would have a clause in their contract that entitles them to a payment upgrade along with the cap going up. So would probably negate the increase.

He can tackle, that means he is a potential game breaker at this club.;)

I wouldn't be gutted to lose any of them if it means Doyle does a bit of his magic phone calling and picks up some better replacements.

Problem is, with upgrades (and some players will be demanding them - like Lolohea, Kata, Vete, Lisone), U20s and fringe players graduating to the top squad etc - there won't be a lot of cash freed up for new signings. Unless other players (Hurrell?) decide to leave, or we're still paying for the likes of Mateo etc.

If we re-sign the likes of Gubb and RFM, it'll cost us more than their current contracts too.

All those players have been re-signed with updated contracts already...

depends on the extent of the upgrades. for example there might be step ups in there (e.g. because Kata and Lolohea made the kiwis squad etc). but good to know all four have already been upgraded :) that's one less thing to worry about.

Lousi (and his manager) know he's on a good thing at the Warriors - getting paid more than most of our first graders earn and playing in the NSW Cup. Why would he want to leave now and take a pay cut and be forced to play for what he's actually worth? Unfortunately, we're stuck with him until his contract expires. Just wonder if he (or his manager) are clever enough to work out that he's not going to be on anywhere the same coin elsewhere until he actually is playing FG at a level that warrants that sort of money.

I see a huge pay cut - or cold weather in the north of England - in his future.
If he is injured so often he won't be costing the Warriors that much it is the salary cap space they have to leave open for him when he is fit.

Mount Wellington will know for sure but my understanding is when they are signed for say $300,000 that is the maximum they might earn including match payments. If they spend the whole time injured they get less.

Yep. Is my reading of dead wood under the salary cap issue likely to take this season or next season to get clear?
