No one has every actually heard of a front loaded contract either. I think it’s forum myth more than anything.
It’s not always a 1+1=2 equation. For example if we lose ‘Player A’ on $600k it doesn’t necessarily mean we have $600k for a replacement. Often what happens is we recruit ‘Player B’ for $400k and upgrade ‘Player C’ and ‘Player D’ contracts $100k each.Taj you seem pretty certain we have no money spare - Have you got some inside goss? Or just doing your own math. I can't see where the money would be going by what we have signed vs who we have lost. For example even if Luke was meant to go, that money would have been going somewhere. But we have only signed 1 NRL player in Ah Mau, and Mannerings money would easily cover him. There's always front loaded/back loaded deals around, but only inside knowledge would know of that.
"There could be a bit of a shakeup in some places and if that happens, it will leave us reasonably well place if we felt like we wanted to make a move." - B Smith
That quote basically says we have cash up our sleeve to snag someone potentially mid season next year.
And then used some of SJs money to keep that prop in 2020 (hopefully still keeping SJ though!)If we have $450k or something like that spare in our cap. If there was a certain mega prop would be expecting around $900k per year. If we got him on a mid season swap we would be likely to only pay the remainder of his contract? So $450kish. I could handle picking up a disgruntled mega prop for the second half of the season for half price.
Brian Smith mentioned today they could potentially go back to market as players become available once the coaching merry go round is finalised.Surely must have Gavets money to spend?
this is exactly what i took out of Smiths interview tooBrian Smith mentioned today they could potentially go back to market as players become available once the coaching merry go round is finalised.
He mentioned they feel they have adequate cover for Gavet but it does sound like they’re keeping some powder dry to have a dip later on.
Only ever heard of back ended contracts which we may very well be clearing room to pay for.No one has every actually heard of a front loaded contract either. I think it’s forum myth more than anything.
