As I said it is an option, not preferred but still there. Other than the Rookies and Hiku who else can play in the Halves.
Both Roach an Lawton play in the halves an both have first grade experience .
With the rookies stepping up as well .
Its going to be some competition for game time ..Its not as dire as some would
Say ..But its definetly going to make for good team list Tuesdays .

I love it how know one is talking about Paul Turner anymore. Could he be a Smokey to play. From what I’ve heard he’s been killing it. Haven’t seen many pics of him in preseason though.
Still very young isn’t he! Needs at least a season in the Reggie’s ala CHT. Though it’s unfortunate or not that CHT will debut this year, I feel it opens the halves spot for Turner in ISP. The game is too hard, strong and fast for Turner to be fast tracked to NRL. But never say never right.

Yeah big difference between carving up boys and elite level men, far less space and time, and they aren't running 110kg forwards at you all game to tire you out.

Oh and they actually play defense :p

That was more of a problem in the under 20s. Reserve grade is a bit slower but no less physical than FG. There are some grumpy old bastards who know a few tricks running around in ISP compared with the under 20s.

RTS picking Adam Keighran as Green's half partner.

The speedster, the brains and the freak: RTS picks Johnson replacement

One has blistering speed and will give opposition defenders nightmares; the other has freakish skills that make him a threat from anywhere on the park; and the other has rugby league maturity — the awareness of a veteran playmaker.

Meet the three Warriors contenders for the jersey vacated by Shaun Johnson — Hayze Perham (19), Chanel Harris-Tavita (19) and Adam Keighran (21).

While captain Roger Tuivasa-Sheck insisted Blake Green’s halves partner has not yet been locked in, he told Fox League’s Hannah Hollis who he would name if the round one team-list had to be submitted.

But prior to that he highlighted the strengths of the three youngsters in the running to fill Johnson’s huge boots.

“The pre-season has been crazy, it’s been exciting, because one week Chanel is just firing and you're going ‘he’s the man, that’s his spot’, and then you see Hayze come out and have an awesome week and you go ‘actually I think Hayze has taken it’, and then Adam steps up and he just shows the ability he brings over from Penrith and you’re like ‘nah this guy’s got to be in that spot’,” he told League Life.

“Hayze is a Rotorua kid, rugby union background. He came over and he’s a fullback so he started off at the back there, and just lightning speed that’s what he has.

“He’s trying to transition into that half playing role because he showed us he needs the ball in hand more often. So, that’s something we expect from him, ball in hand, just speed, and he takes on the line really well.

“Then you’ve got someone like Chanel, who’s just freakish. He’s got that flair about him, I don’t know if you saw that junior Kiwis game that try that he set up [with a scorpion kick], that’s the kind of magic he can produce.

“He’s still learning the game and how to control a team but it’s just that flair and X-factor he brings.

“Then you’ve got someone like Adam, who’s coming from the Penrith system and he’s all footy. It’s like he grew up learning rugby league all his life. He’s got a great IQ, good kicking game on him, big boot left foot as well, so that would be good to have on that left side.”

So Hollis pressed: “If you had to choose one of the three who would it be?”

“It’s tough but at this stage I think Adam’s doing really well to show the coach that he’s got that IQ,” Tuivasa-Sheck answered.

“All the players have that skill and ability, it’s all about who can manage the pack the best and at the moment I feel like Adam is doing a really good job at it.”

I would agree with RTS.
We need someone who knows RL.
Maybe not another SJ which is what CHT sounds more akin too.
Hayze would purely be a runner. Not sure if he has a kicking game either.

I guess in an ideal situation AK replaces Green and CHT takes on Johnson’s old role.
I’d suspect that’s the longer term plan, put AK in Now to learn off Green then he’s experienced when CHT comes through in a couple of years(gotta remember he’s only 19)

Having watched him play different positions in junior grades, for mine, Perham is a ball player with the bonus of an elusive running game i.e a good step, decent pace.
Whilst he could adjust to anywhere in the backs, the halves is where he would provide the most benefit to a team.
Sure he could have been devastating playing halves in the 20s last year but playing fullback in the ISP at least got him playing against men.

Part of me is wondering if perhaps the Roosters have the right template for the NRL at the moment and us Kiwis are still in a Benji/SJ hangover: put IQ and a good boot in your halves, and have high skill centres. How would Hayze go there?

Can't say that interview filled me with confidence.
His last statement "it'll be interesting to see how it goes" about sums things It up.
I must have seen a different interview.

True, but they also paid over for the best half in the comp, even with one shoulder.

I think what that GF showed that they played as a team of 12 with a half who couldn't do anything but point. The Warriors are going to have the best team they have had for years with rookie halves surrounded by genuine old professional heads. Like Green said, it is going to be interesting, especially if SK is true to his word and they have been working on Kata passing to Ken. Now that would be bloody interesting. Just imagine a defence not knowing what side of the field to stack.

Nice post! Finally some insight into these three.. great to hear they can each bring a different play style to our game, so basically..

Hayze is Kaylyn Pongas “little” brother

Chanel is SJ before his injury

Adam is Cam Smith (if he played halfback?)
