The long-awaited journey towards the NRLW 2025 season has finally begun for the Warriors. After a hiatus of five years, the team is making a comeback to the competition. Head Coach Ron Griffiths, along with his players and staff, have started putting together the pieces of the puzzle 55 days ahead of their first game back.

The team gathered for the first time since their break on Monday, marking the start of this new chapter. The energy and excitement amongst the players and staff were palpable. The first meeting was primarily about introductions and familiarising the players with their new base at Go Media Stadium. The refurbished stadium, previously used by the Oceania Football Confederation, now boasts personalised locker rooms for the players and an expertly prepared training field.

In September last year, Griffiths announced the signing of Apii Nicholls, 2018 foundation Warrior and Kiwi Ferns fullback, as the first player for the team's comeback. The 24-strong roster was completed with the signing of Avery-Rose Carmont late last week.

On Tuesday, the players returned to the site, joined by a large group of One New Zealand Warriors staff led by CEO Cameron George and NRL head coach Andrew Webster. The occasion marked the blessing of the premises by Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei. Griffiths expressed his appreciation for the blessing, acknowledging the significance of the moment in the team's history. He emphasised the importance of respecting the legacy left by their male counterparts and the foundation upon which the NRLW Warriors stand.

The players are excited to get the football back in their hands, evident from the energy on the training ground. However, star signing Michaela Brake was absent on Monday and Tuesday due to her Black Ferns rugby union commitments. She joined the group on Wednesday, which was a day dedicated to outfitting and internal media requirements.

Outside the stadium, the players have already begun building rapport, with several of them sharing apartments. Tyra Wetere, Payton Takimoana, Matekino Gray, and Emmanita Paki have moved in together, as have Michaela Brake, Shakira Baker, and Maarire Puketapu. Emily Curtain, Felila Kia, and Lavinia Kitai have also set up house together.

All in all, the stage is set for the Warriors to make a stunning comeback in the NRLW 2025. The team's return is being keenly watched by fans, with many expressing their excitement on the nzwarriors.com forum. The general sentiment amongst the fans is positive, with high hopes for the upcoming season.
