Fellow Australians Ivan Cleary and David Nucifora joined forces to put their rugby league and rugby union squads through a training session with a difference on Friday (January 13).
The Cleary-coached Vodafone Warriors and Nucifora's Blues endured a surf life saving-based workout run by legendary iron man Cory Hutchings at Mairangi Bay.
The Vodafone Warriors worked with Hutchings ahead of the 2005 NRL season and have done so again for their 2006 campaign while the Blues have embraced his approach as they head towards their 2006 Super 14 programme starting early next month.
Cleary and Nucifora, both in their first seasons as head coaches of their franchises, hadn't met before last Friday but both camps have indicated they're keen to work together again if at all possible.
With a healthy crowd of beach goers looking on, Hutchings had the rival players working on the beach and in the water in a challengng session.
