NRL Grand Final Discussion - Penrith vs Broncos

Somebody should own up.... Are you Mt Smart?
That was brutal
Its pretty embarrassing really.

Its should be pretty clear who that person is on here. He would have probably rated the Warriors performance an A+ in the GF between Panthers and Broncos such is the delusion. Some people should just try to lay off being on the keyboard whilst on the piss.

Decided to keep the travel and accomadation plans we had pre-booked in case we made the GF, so just had a good long weekend up in Sydney.

It really is Rugby League heartland, every club is rep'd, plenty of Warriors jerseys around which was great to see, Broncos fans are actually pretty bloody decent, feel for them now.

Think we saw bits and pieces of the game in 2 or 3 different bars around the Quay, which was probably 2 or 3 too many! I'm still yet to see the full game, but from what I did see I'd swear the Broncs had it! Have the Panthers even conceded 24 points all season?

Anyway, great weekend, great game, commiserations to the Broncs, congrats to uncle Ivan.

Up the Wahs!

They've been a member of their forum since 2011 ...

The plot thickens

I love the Broncos style. The speed and skill they play with. They sometimes overdo it with the high risk, high reward style as I think they could just blow teams away with pure pace and skill.

The key for me is that their centres are so fast, physical and dominant on both sides and it opens up both edges to attacking plays with Walsh chiming in. Both halves are skilful and Mam has the speed as well. A beauty to watch when players are in motion.

And then there’s the Panthers. Low error, high completion, high fitness, grinding style. Boring.

I hope the Broncos take out the competition next year (if we don’t win it) and the competition moves towards that speed and attacking flair and away from grinding dominant defence - for the good of the game.

Yes, Broncs fans are pretty good if you don't offend them. Just like any other fans.

By the way, you are using the Astropay payment system. If yes, you may find interesting the page with casinos that accept this payment system: https://betpokies.com/astropay-casinos - and if you don't use it, take a look anyway. There's a good list of sites there where you can have fun with your time.
Speed and skill didn't help this time, but it looks really beautiful. I'd say elegant. Not brute force like many.

I honestly don’t know how it was so close.

Panthers 56% possession to Broncos 44%

Panthers 97% completion to 71% Broncos

Panthers 1 error to Broncos 11

Mam was the only reason the Broncos were in it. Exceptionally one sided according to the stats.
The game was Penrith's to lose, and they went close. They were never far enough in front to ease off, but they did.

Fortunately too many curved edges on the nrl trophy.
Pretty bad form all the same. That log of wood was sacred

Thought this was a hard case reference to joining the bulldogs.

I'm finding it hard to find the answer - I suspect it is a first

Has any team scored 24 straight points in a GF and lost the game?

I thought maybe Parras comeback in 2001 but Knights scored in between their points.

Knight scored 30 straight to lead 30:0 in the first half I believe

Nothing boring about that match
Funny how the memory fades. I remember Freeman’s time at the Tigers, Roosters and Eels but forgot he also played for the Panthers.
His book title was supposed to be Tiger,Tiger (Northcote) and (Balmain), as they were writing it he joined the Rorters, then he joined the Panthers, so the title became Tiger, Tiger, Rooster Panther, I think it stayed that was even though he finished with the Eels.

I had the book once

He was a great player was Wiz. The Aussies loved his attitude.

That day he got sent off at Ericsson, he had led the Panthers to the win anyway

Might sound petty but the broncos as a club annoyed the shit out of me last week when the crowd started the hey baby-hoo haa chant late in the game after it did the rounds in our home grounds. Thought it was nothing more than mockery. People don’t like the panthers as winners but the broncos are going to be far harder to stomach when they win one I reckon.
I don't mind winning fans being happy and borderline or full blown annoying. It's been 28 years and know matter how long it takes, once we get our first premiership I will have all those years of suffering ready to convert to full blown insufferable gloating.

Jeez Broncos threw that one away. How do you lose a GF after being up 16 points with 20 mins to go? Cleary was outstanding in the last 20 mins while a lot of the Broncos just seemed to clock off. That last try Cleary scored both Carrigan and Walsh were there to close the hole but didn't.
Apparently you have to lose a GF to win one. Lucky for us I suppose.
