I think you'll find we are numero uno in missed tackles, we are not even in top 5 of most tackles. 63 misses against Dragons alone, our scramble is saving our life atm.
Fuck that’s piss poor really! 63 missed tackles! Kearney you muppet!

Like a Rock. (Apologies to Bob Seger and the Silver Bullets)
As in stationary while players ran around us?
Prefer Like a Stone - Audioslave

Much better song & the lyrics are more apt ...

I wait for you there ... like a stone ... I wait for you there ... alone

RIP Chris Cornell

Not seen the game yet (nor will I) but obviously the defence was horrendous.

I actually think up until then that it has been quite strong. When you look at the Souths, Canberra and Cowboys games and the amount of penalties we gave away and the pressure on our line we would normally be looking at 50 point losses every week.

It was that our D was horrendous and their attack was perfectly executed.

We were totally outclassed.

Next game to focus on now.

Have we got points in us? Definitely

Have we got defensive strength?

After the arse whipping from Melbourne - not last night. But against the table topping Dragons, yessiree.

Why one week yes and the next week no?

Anyone read Cam Smith's comments about our inability to handle expectation and being at the top?

Vastly experienced Melbourne captain Cameron Smith had sympathy for the Warriors but suggested they were still learning how to handle the weight of expectation following their impressive start to the season.

"The Warriors, they had a short turnaround and they had a big game last week [against the Dragons]," said Smith.

"I spoke to [Kearney] after the game, a lot of their players haven't dealt with the position they're in at the moment, being on top of the ladder, and they only lost their first game a couple of weeks ago.

"Every team is aiming up against them and it takes a lot of effort week by week to stay up for those big games, so it would have been extremely hard for them to come here tonight."

Smith being on the field is in a good position to evaluate sides. Both sides needed to back up with a short turn around; like mentioned our guys had a big win and weren't used to backing it up. Also a good point about teams aiming up against us; that will help long term.

It does seem this club is always in that situation where we are not used to the spot light. We have a more experienced team so hopefully that will change. If we make the finals hopefully the side is used to teams aiming up a against them. Otherwise we are waiting until ANZAC Day next year to asses progress.

IMO the Storm highlighted our frail edge defence by simply targeting that area really early on in the set. That nullified the middle line speed, sliding defence and put more of their superior outside edge players in one on one situations. It really was a masterclass of coaching from Craig Bellamy. If you watch the Dragons game we were very poor one on one out wide but were almost always saved from the sliding line.

It really is time our flanks took a hard long look at themselves defensively. They must make their individual tackles. They cannot expect the sliders to cover their asses. They will tested there again all year now...

A couple of years ago the Warriors looked finals bound then other teams started throwing the ball around against them and they fell to pieces. This has that same feeling about it, a couple of expansive tries from Melbourne was enough to shatter the Warriors defences and they crumbled terribly.

This might have been the death knell for the Warriors this year

A game plan is only as good as the guys operating it. Our 2018 team has proved they can operate a game plan.

But the other thing about game plans is they all have a shelf life, and once they get old they become stale and stop working. So the storm worked out our early season game plan and came up with a very good plan to defeat it.

Are we going to keep using the same plan, over and over again, like eating rotten meat? Or are we going to get fresh with the opposition and keep doing things to them that they have no answer to.

Our defense was great because we were energized, and also because our opposition hadn't worked out how to get around it yet. Now that everyone knows how to get around early season Warriors defense, how are we going to defend?

It's like stand up comedy. It doesn't have to be complex. It only has to be a surprise.

Your last sentence is the key one. We have been the surprise of the opening rounds but the NRL coaches are key to latch onto something and go to death with it. The other coaches will look at the Broncos and Storm game and go "Well that works" or "Is that how its done".

Same with our attack if one side finds a good defensive strategy to nullify it the rest will follow. You only have to look at the way the game is played with the wrestle. That works for them lets do it to.

The one on one tackling was another symptom of flat effort from our boys. An energized ball runner will beat a lackluster defender more often than not. It's just physics in motion.

The team need to forget the past, because it's never coming back, and get amped up again, ready for the next top of the table battle royal v the tigpees...

We win this comp one defensive victory at a time. With great offense of course being the best defense.

Melbourne are just a level above us in their layers of structure. Bellamy targeted our edges and Smith & Slater orchestrated the win like clockwork, as you'd expect after 10 years of combos and set drills together, against Mason and our young ISP boys. Kearney needs a few more seasons to get us humming like the storms.

The opposite of what they did 63 times against the Storm :bored:
I guess it's about personal pride.

Do you let that dude run right past you and make you look like a fool,,,, or do you drop him like a sack of spuds and then celebrate your Warriors harvest...
