General Warriors Courting Covell

According to this weeks RLW, the warriors are showing plenty interest in Luke Covell who is unlikely to be offered a new contract with the Sharks.

one question warriors, why? you're letting webb walk, and you go chasing a reserve grade rooster and an out of form all-i-can-do-is-kick-goals player from the sharks?????

unless they're replacing Tony Martin there is no need for Covell really.

Warriors new management are doing exactly what sunk us with Mark Graham. Going for Quantity over Quality. They'd rather have 40 average players on their books than 25 - 30 class players. dum dum dum....

I agree, there's no need to go for Covell, he's a second-class winger who's only good attribute is kicking goals. We should be focussing on signing players that are vital to the team make-up.

I'd suggest his goal kicking percentage is much lower than Tony's this season, also.

He'd have to be very much at the right price, IE, next to nothing to gain my interest.

At least we don't need to think about the prospect of Covell, Ropati, Toopi and Martin in a backline. I think I'd gouge out my eyes and start supporting the Newtown Jets if that ever happened....

Defensively Martin is fine, defensively Covell is fine, defensively Mannering is fine.

Our outside backs are becoming like our forwards, very similar across the park. We're going to turn into the most one dimensional team ever at this rate.

Having said that I do have high hopes for Mannering as he's showing a little more attacking flair as he gets more confidence.

My biggest problem is that if we add Covell to the the team then we could end up with one of the slowest backlines ever. The Warriors defense is one of the better ones this year, what we need is additional pace and the ability to break the line and score tries. We're going to get that from Covell? Hell no.

Yeah, but we don't need another solid, defence-based player, we need a dynamic player that can break the line and has plenty of speed.

I've got no prob with Tony Martin, I just don't think we need more players who are virtually identical.

It's like our backrow. Anderson, Koopu, Luck and Guttenbeil are all fine players in their own right and deserve first grade spots, but as a unit they're too similar in style.

I don't have a problem with him either. I think he's definitely gotten better as this season has progressed. But Covell on the other hand...mmmmm....not that great.

For gods sake spend ya money wisely, for players we actually need, like a replacment for webb, & a decent 5/8. Not some fringe 1st grader who's only asset is goalkicking.

I agree entirely.

He's been vital for us this year. Goal kicking is solid, would love another metre of depth on it because I reckon he'd be in the mid to high 80s if that was the case as the line is usually very good, he takes the oppotunities given to him generally, he doesn't drop the ball, he makes his tackles.

He's an unsung Warrior.
