After slogging it out with the Blues' Super 14 rugby union squad at Mairangi Bay last week, the Vodafone Warriors head to Waiheke Island on Sunday (January 22) for another public training session.
Head coach Ivan Cleary is taking the club's NRL squad out onto the Hauraki Gulf to give the island's community and holiday makers the chance to see the Vodafone Warriors at work.
The day also doubles as a family event with the players, coaching staff and management having a beach barbecue after the training run.
With Waiheke Island resident Peter Leitch pulling the organisational reins, the Vodafone Warriors' party is travelling to Waiheke Island courtesy of SeaLink from Half Moon Bay.
With the support of Jaguar Tours, the "touring" party will be transferred to the Waiheke Sports Club on Causeway Road in Ostend where the training session is due to start at 11.00am.
While the players and coaches are training, their partners and families, together with those of other Vodafone Warriors staff, will be taken on a trip around Waiheke Island by Jaguar Tours. After the run finishes about 12.30, the players will mix with the public to sign autographs.
Vodafone Warriors captain Steve Price and two other players will also make an appearance about 2.00pm at a RESQBBQ event at the Onetangi Sports Park. The barbecue is being put on to raise funds for the Auckland Rescue Helicopter Trust.
