That time of year where the club hand out the awards for:

Player of the Year

Forgetting about favourites, thats the Vodafone Peoples Choice, who do you believe will win the Players, Rookie and Clubman awards.

Last year the winners were:

Vodafone Peoples Choice - Konrad Hurrell

Past winners of the Player of the Year are:

*only listed players alphabetically who have played 17 games or more.

Ngani Rookie of the year. Played more games and in a position we have struggled with and has handled it with ease.
Simon Mannering Player of the year. The most consistant, puts the most effort in, basically has carried the team this year. There have been plenty of players that have had exceptional games this season but only Captain Mannering has turned up for every game. Close behind would be Friend and Leuluai.

Went with Simon and Suaia
Simon has really stepped up as a Captain this year, (although a bit quiet for the last couple) which I think has been the turnaround for the team.
If he continues to improve we will be a great team.

Went with Thomas and Suaia. Two of the bright spots of this overall pretty average (thus far) season.

why was there no awards in 2006 ?
Not sure? I noticed that when I copied it off Wikipedia. Anyone???[DOUBLEPOST=1377763471][/DOUBLEPOST]

Think your bang on with your assessment about Mannering. Huge fan of his and get peeved when people call him out. Only reason why I havent gone with him this year is that he's won it twice already!

Player: Leuluai
Rookie: Laumape
Clubman: Mannering
Peoples: Konrad Hurrell

why was there no awards in 2006 ?
Just got this off Wiki for 2006...

Awards
  • September 14 – Steve Price wins the club’s premier accolade as the Lion Red Player of the Year. Grant Rovelli wins the Vodafone Young Player of the Year, Micheal Luck the Puma Clubman of the Year and Brent Webb the Vodafone One Tribe Supporters’ Player of the Year.

Went with Friend and Laumape. We all saw what happend when we diddn't have a proper hooker. Has been heart and soul all year, same with Mannering however Friend plays a more important position. Laumape... well he plays well above his age.

Player of the Year - Thomas Leulai
Young Player (Rookie) of the Year - Suaia Matagi
Clubman of the Year - Simon Mannering
Vodafone Peoples Choice - Aer they even doing this ? we used to text each week to 499. Haven't seen anything about it this season

Have heard that the Gala dinner is sold out ( was in the Mad Butchers' newsletter) without even being offered for sale !

POY - Hurrell
Rookie - Matagi
Clubman - Mannering
PChoice - Leuluai

Only clear cut one in my opinion is Mannering as Clubman winner.

I voted for two players just because it let me.
Mannering & TL. I think Mannering will win it but I'm a big fan of what tommy does and don't think he'd be too distant in second.
Laumape rookie.

Peoples choice I have no idea, there's some fucking morons around on facebook etc. if it's a popularity contest Manu or Johnson.

Cpt Mannering and Low Mappy for me too. Though if Matagi had a few more games then the Rookie award would be impossible to pick.

However, they'll give Mannering the clubman award rather than see him get POY yet again. Which is stupid, and reflective of NZ's "let everyone have a turn at feeling special" mentality.

Voted for Konrad, why not, if it's most consistent player, no, but most outstanding player i'd give it to him on those grounds.
For improvement in fitness and defence throughout the season, and for not sulking when being dropped, for his competitiveness and fire during games.

Also he was not involved in the lowest point in recent warrior history Rd 10 at penrith. Coincidence? Maybe...

He won us the manly game with a try not many could score, won us the broncos games (intercept, whatever, he knew what he was doing ;)) probably was the difference between winning and losing against the titans also.
He knocked GI on his arse, is probably going to top our try scoring tally, he had some struggles but if they make the playoffs he will be a big reason why.

Also not many players have been consistently excellent this year, Mannering and Friend are consistenly good to very good, but in the interests of letting everyone feel special - The Hurrelicane it is.

Matagi for Rookie, but flip a coin, Ngani has had some stormers and some duds, Matagi more consistent (just used the reverse of my logic for giving Konrad player of the year, so there you go)

I found it easier to eliminate the players who certainly didn't deserve it. Was left with about 5.

Was finally left with Mannering and TL for the top one. Still deciding...

Lol. Last year was so obvious. Even the Dally M, this year not so much.

Yep I agree with those two

Remember how many people were hating on leuluai
hahaha I remember the TL hate before he even got off the plane. All this 'he's untested in the NRL' or 'wont be able to hack the pace' type of bullshit cracks me up now. Im a big believer that the NRL is superior to the ESL but believe a class player is a class player no matter where they are playing. Most important thing is attitude and he has that in spades.

Anyway, been saying this for months now but my vote is TL. Has been the most consistent player every round. Lets not forget that Mannering was out of form for the first few weeks of the season with most questioning not only his captaincy of the Kiwis but even his selection.

Doesnt matter though. Its open to the public so its more a popularity contest. Only 3 players have a chance. Manu, Shaun Johnson or Hurrell. Matagi could be an outside chance with all the media he has had lately. My moneys on Hurrell...
