The Auckland Vulcans were soundly beaten by the competition leaders the North Sydney at North Sydney Oval on Saturday. Down 24-6 at half time, the Vulcans couldn't foot it with the Bears in the second half going down 52-14.

Doesn't help that Bluey took 2 players out of contention.

Fish was named as Warriors 18th man but never travelled and Sam Lousi took the spot and plane ticket. I think it is a bit tough on the Vulcans when important players are ruled out due to selection at 18th man, even though Bluey has no intention to play them. The only reason I can see for Fish being named was to give the impression that Locke may not have been 100% recovered.

Given a choice, I would assume they would rather play footy than sit on the sideline while the coach tries to play cunning mind games with oppositions. I have no problem with a player being selected as 18th man if he is a genuine chance of covering in case of injury, but Bluey seems to use it as a reward, while replacing the player. Or with Lousi getting it, I'm guessing it is a little teaser, similar to what he has given Godinet this year, but it could amount to nothing.

Chance to play top grade NRL vs. certainty to play park footy. If it were me i'd take the chance to play NRL if i'm serious about my football.

That isn't quite what I'm talking about. Fish was named on Tuesday as 18th man. That meant he was ruled out of the Vulcans. My opinion of why Bluey named his was to bamboozle Ivan into thinking Locke was a chance of not playing. He then took Sam Lousi to Australia. Fish was never going to play. Why name him?

Pettybourne 2 weeks ago did his calf in the warm up, it's crucial to have good cover at 18th man and Fish was carrying an injury at the end of last weeks game that he might not of got over..

Often with all the clubs the team named on the tuesday doesn't resemble the playing squad on the weekend, especially for a monday game. I wouldn't think who gets named by the opposition has too much to do with the other teams build up, as even a couple of different players would have minimal affect on a game plan.

From information I've heard from within the club, it was hoped that Fish's knee was going to come right before the team travelled (given it was a Monday night game) but when he hadn't recovered enough, he was pulled from the 18th man spot. It was his injury, not a tactical decision from Bluey, which meant he didn't go over to Penrith.

BTW, Fish has been named in the Vulcans for this week to play the Magpies - but I've heard, unofficially, that this is subject to a fitness test on his knee.

Why name him? Coz the fish was 1st choice as 18th man, the team was named on Tuesday but did not travel until sunday 5 days later! Fish would have been given most of that 5 days to prove his fitness.
