Tyler Reid (born 7 May 1994) is a New Zealand rugby league footballer who played for the New Zealand Warriors in the NRL Women's Premiership. She primarily plays as a prop.

Reid was born in Oamaru, New Zealand.

Before switching to rugby league, Reid played rugby union for Hamilton Old Boys and Waikato. In 2018, she founded the Taupiri rugby union womens team.

In 2019, Reid began playing rugby league for the Papakura Sisters in Auckland. That year, she represented Counties Maukau at the NZRL Women's National Tournament.

In August 2019, Reid joined the New Zealand Warriors NRL Women's Premiership team as a replacement for the injured Va'anessa Molia-Fraser.

In Round 2 of the 2019 NRL Women's season, she made her debut for the Warriors in a 6–26 loss to the St George Illawarra Dragons.

Youthful Waikato team primed for next challenge

There is a fresh look to the Waikato women's rugby team as the new provincial season prepares to get under way in a week.

The make up of the 2013 squad has 12 new additions to the side as Waikato attempt to build on their progress from last season where they returned to the national competition after a seven year absence.

Some of the current squad members are in secondary school or a couple of years removed, but coach Reuben Samuel said the focus would be to learn the lessons from 2012 as they prepare to line up against other provincial teams stacked with Black Ferns.

"Last year was about us learning about ourselves and seeing what we could do.

"In the media guide last year, we were the team with the least amount of caps by a long shot and once again we're probably in the same boat.'

Despite being without the services of Black Ferns vice-captain Victoria Grant and the Hohepa sisters, Carla and Chyna, Samuel still has the luxury of calling upon the likes of New Zealand sevens star Honey Hireme and first five-eighth Chelsea Alley, who made her debut for the Black Ferns against England this year.

Samuel will also draw on experienced campaigners Teresa Te Tamaki and lock Crystal Kaua as Waikato endeavour to improve on their fourth-place finish in the women's provincial championship.

"We do look towards those girls to help us in our planning and us moving forward and keeping the girls enthused knowing that they're coming up against some big experienced girls.

"It's trying to encourage them that there is a gap but it's not as big as they think and if they put their best foot forward that anything is possible. Chelsea's proved that.

"We'd like to see a few more of our Waikato girls represent not only in sevens but in fifteens and we think over the next couple of years that will definitely happen."

However, Samuel faces the challenge of having the gifted Hireme for a limited amount of games with the dual international set to link up with the national sevens team for training camps and could possibly be joined by Francea Hanson, Ariana Hira-Herangi and Shiray Tane.

But he is confident they have the players ready to step in with many of them having had great seasons at club and secondary school level.

The Waikato squad have no pre-season games leading into the competition but will be in a training camp over the weekend as they begin preparations for their opening fixture away against competition newcomers Counties Manukau next Saturday.

Waikato Women's NPC Team: Ana Marsters, Ariana Bayler, Ariana Hira-Herangi, Ashlee Gaby-Sutherland, Azania Watene, Baye Jacob, Carrie Lobb, Chelsea Alley, Crystal Kaua, Francea Hansen, Ginia Muavae, Honey Hireme, Jodie Pryor, Kendra Reynolds, Kennedy Simon, Katokakala Tonga, Moana Forbes, Racqual Anderson-Pitman, Rivay O'Donnell, Rochelle Smiler, Sarah Young, Shiray Tane, Sosoli Talawadua, Teresa Te Tamaki, Tylar Papuni, Tyler Reid, Victoria Edmonds. Unavailable for selection: Robyn Engles, Carla Hohepa, Chyna Hohepa, Nicole Marwick, Victoria Grant.

The SkyCity Hamilton Waikato Women’s team has been named for their first match of the 2018 Farah Palmer Cup against Counties Manukau at Taupiri Rugby Club on Saturday (1 September).

Both teams come from the Chiefs Country province and so they will be vying for the new Chiefs Country Cup in the same fashion as the four Chiefs’ province teams do in the Mitre 10 Cup.

SkyCity Hamilton Waikato Women’s head coach Wayne Maxwell has named a strong side that features 22 players from four different Waikato clubs. 2017 captain Sosoli Talawadua has again retained the captaincy and this season she will be supported in her leadership role by Blackfern’s player Chelsea Alley. Alley is fresh from the recent Blackfern’s campaign that saw them retain the Laurie O’Reilly Cup with back to back wins over Australia.

2018 Gallagher Women’s Premiership winning Melville Captain Ashlee Gaby-Sutherland has been recalled into the squad for the first time since 2014 off the back of a strong season with her club.

The team also features two women who are in line to make their provincial debut. University Hooker Stacey Littleworth has been named as the starting Hooker and will earn her first cap. Hamilton Old Boys player Lena Mitchell has a chance to make her Waikato debut from the bench.

Radiniyavuni and Reid to debut

Richard Becht
Tue 17 Sep 2019, 03:17 pm

Wing Roela Radiniyavuni and front rower Tyler Reid will make their NRLW debuts in the Warriors' second-round premiership encounter with the St George Illawarra Dragons at Mount Smart Stadium today (3.15pm kick-off).

In late selection changes, Fiji international Radiniyavuni comes onto the left wing and Reid has been brought onto the bench.

Radiniyavuni replaces Madison Bartlett, who made her debut last week, while Reid is in for Tanika-Jazz Noble-Bell.
There's also a change in the starting pack with Onjeurlina Leiataua brought into the second row and Kathleen Wharton moving to the interchange.

Dropping out of the 21 players originally named are Bartlett, Noble-Bell, Tasia Seumanufagai and Amber Kani.

The Warriors' first NRLW home game – and the competition’s first standalone fixture – follows an impressive 16-12 first-up triumph over the Sydney Roosters at the SCG last Saturday.

In a performance featuring a number of standout efforts and moments, rookie halfback Charntay Poko excelled with her kicking game and all-round touches including a critical try early in the second half.

The kicking statistics for the match underlined Poko’s value. She was the Warriors’ only kicker, making a competition record 515 metres from her 16 kicks including a 40/30 which led to the side’s first try; the Warriors also forced three goal-line dropouts on the back of Poko’s kicking game. The Roosters managed just 267 kicking metres.

The Warriors had a number of other strong contributors including captain Georgia Hale and centre Atawhai Tupaea. Besides her try, Hale made a game high 40 tackles without a miss while Tupaea, making her comeback at top level, scored the match-sealing try, gained a team high 106 metres from 12 runs with three tackle breaks and made 19 tackles with only one miss.

The Dragons were also the Warriors’ second-round opponents in last year’s competition.

On that occasion, the Warriors were coming off a 10-4 win over the Roosters while the Dragons had lost 4-30 to Brisbane. However, needing a win to boost their grand final claims, the Warriors fell 10-22 to St George Illawarra.

The same scenario presents itself again today although with the Warriors having the notable advantage of playing at home this time.

While the Warriors again take winning form into the contest, the Dragons fell 4-14 to defending champions the Brisbane Broncos last Sunday.
